-UNC Kenan-Flagler is unique in that it provides MBA students with a well-rounded education. It attracts high caliber students who are very teamwork oriented, have strong leadership potential, and are respectful at all times. Additionally, Kenan-Flagler students receive practical training in our chosen field(s) that make us better prepared than many of our colleagues to make an immediate impact on the organizations that we join for internships and full-time opportunities after graduation.
-I think the program could be stronger if it could attract a higher percentage of qualified female applicants. Top schools are getting much closer to 50/50, while UNC remains at 25%.
-The school's core is not centered on any area of study, region, or career type. Rather, KFBS throws its weight into polishing MBAs that will be high-potential leaders of direct reports the day they step foot in their new job. The theme is to cut "the first 90 days" down to the first 9 days.
-The students have begun to out stride the faculty. They would be well served by bringing on bigger name faculty with fresh market-vetted experience. There is too much academic (be it leading edge) and not enough real world backing in much of the curriculum.
-UNC program is unique because of our culture and diversity. While it provides an excellent academic learning experience, the program also offers an amazing opportunity to meet fellow classmates who are ambitious about their future and their communities. This allows our class to develop both leadership and team building skills.
-I think we could institute mandatory international trips for students. I also think it could be improved by limiting some of the outside classroom work during the core in order to fully learn the material.
-The business program is unique because it's well rounded - applicable to most business areas such as finance, marketing, consulting, real estate and sustainability. It also maintains a strong balance between teamwork and leadership skill building. Other programs may do a few of these well or be applicable to only one business area.
-I believe the quality of the teaching can be substantially improved. I had only a select few professors who I felt met or exceeded the quality of my undergraduate professors.
-The real life experiences of our real estate private equity fund and our real estate development process make Kenan-Flagler truly unique. On the fund we had the experience of raising and investing real money for direct real estate opportunities. In the real estate development process class we had to try to put together a real deal including negotiations with sellers, and equity and development partners.
-In core, we learned a tremendous amount of theory. I think it would help to spend time in the classroom to relate theory to what's going on in the economy today -- to bridge theory and practice.
-The school didn't just say they were something and then abandon it once we got in the doors; they lived the values they wanted in us as leaders. And they did it while pushing us. They didn't compromise to be more of one than another.
-Increase the number of minorities to make the school more diverse. It would have been nice to seen a larger, more diverse student body.
-Kenan-Flagler is a highly responsive program to student leaders and dedicates time and effort to developing students as excellent leaders. An example of this is the Sustainability Immersion I participated in where I worked on 6 projects globally-- honing my leadership skills while making an impact.
-I think there needs to be a stronger focus on building relationships with companies notable alumni work for. I think the school focuses too much on the relationships already established with certain companies.
-UNC is a family. From the professors to the students to the surrounding community- never have I seen an academic environment so well integrated from top to bottom, so genuine in the level of care for the ""whole-person"" of each student. It's this education of the ""whole-person"" that makes it particularly special. UNC brings as strong (or stronger) of a social element to its MBA as the academic. From the emphasis on teamwork in nearly all assignments to the overarching role of sustainability throughout the curriculum, your education at Carolina is one that makes you not just a better student or employee, but a better person.
