Its co-op experience is what distinguishes it from every other program. The core courses have great professors.
Lots of emphasis was put on the resumes, cover letters and behavioral/experiential interviews, but almost nothing on case interviews, which are becoming more popular. There was also very little information on negotiating. These two areas only had a 1.5 hour workshop to go over things that are so significant - and they came very late in the program.
Northeastern's focus on building lasting connections with the professional environment both in Boston and without give its students a large relative value when compared to other universities. Despite other programs' strengths and comparative competencies, Northeastern excels at integrating its students and their abilities with the non-academic workplace.
Professors need to be consistently good in the core courses. A lot of them are older and think providing materials from the 1980s and 1990s is relevant. They need to keep their materials more up to date rather than just taking the easy way out and recycling their old materials.
Co-op program includes a six month internship at a company with an MBA level job. This experience is worth a lot during an MBA program.
I think that the career services center needs to expand its business contacts beyond the general financial, supply chain and marketing companies. The skills learned in the program can be applied to many other types of companies that involve the three core tracks that the program offers. A more diverse portfolio might attract a higher level of applicant.
The co-op program is great. It allows you to gain experience in a professional, MBA level position. It is especially helpful for career changers like me.
I would love it if they permitted "self-designed" concentrations. While the concentrations have lots of options, the classes are not always necessarily offered during a semester you can take them, which can be frustrating when you need to fulfill a requirement, but would rather take a specific elective.
The corporate residency! No other school I came across offered a 6-month, paid internship in a position where you could actually make an impact. Plus, 100% placement into these corporate residencies is a pretty impressive statistic. Furthermore, the full-time employment statistics - 95% within three months of graduation - are very unique in this economic environment. These numbers are due, in large part, to the exceptional Career Center.
