  • SCHOOL COMMENTS

      • School Comments: Krannert’s new "Launching Tomorrow's Business Leaders" allows students to participate in a competency program to improve professionalism and leadership. The program has 3 components: 1) leadership assessment, which leads to a development plan and coaching, 2) portfolio development to articulate accomplishments and guide future plans, 3) a Leadership & Professional Development class, which addresses ethical and leadership challenges and guides students in career strategies and tools.
      • -Krannert offers a professional and friendly learning environment that stretches you intellectually and prepares you for your future career. At Krannert, you are introduced to the people who can provide you with opportunity and assist you along your career path.

-The experiences outside of the classroom are just as valuable as the experiences within. I was exposed to a very diverse group of students and a very supportive faculty. The program size is appropriate, and I never felt lost in the mix of students.

-The program is too focused on academics, rather than building soft skills and networking. It does not do a good job of career building or offering job opportunities.

-The school has recently incorporated an experiential learning initiative, which truly lives up to its name. This program is especially valuable to those who are trying to change career paths. The school lived up to its reputation as a quant-intensive school.

-If I knew an aspiring MBA wanted to get a great education in operations, supply chain management or finance and have access to great companies in those fields, then i would give Krannert a 10. However, if you want to go into international business, marketing, product management, or entrepreneurship, you'd better look elsewhere.

-In terms of return on investment, Krannert is definitely a place you would want to be. From low cost of living to great faculty and administration to generous scholarships, Krannert delivers. In addition, the quality of my fellow classmates exceeded my expectations. I was able to learn from and grow with them. Furthermore, Krannert offers top-notch facilities with plenty of places to have group meetings and socialize with fellow classmates and faculty. Finally, the size of the class allows individuals plenty of opportunities to take on leadership positions and really make a difference for this wonderful program.

-For me, the program was great. Through a graduate assistantship and scholarship, the program cost me nothing out of pocket, only living expenses and opportunity cost. I was most interested in quant and operations, two of Krannert's biggest strengths. I had the maturity to get the most out of the program and wound up with a great job. For the right person, it's a great program.

-The Krannert MBA Program has prepared me quite well for my future career. Further, Krannert provides a truly remarkable education, considering the net cost as scholarship opportunities are readily available. Lastly, Purdue University has a wonderful entrepreneurial community that the business school regularly partners with to commercialize current research at our Discovery Park. These opportunities, in addition to consulting projects with both small and large firms, are available to all MBA students and augment the more traditional academic coursework.

-From the perspective of learning opportunities, Krannert is outstanding. The exposure is great with experiential learning projects, case competitions, student clubs, leadership speaker series, company visits, consulting projects, team activities, cultural events, study abroad programs, etc. The faculty is exceptional and that is one of the school's biggest strengths. The class size is relatively small, and one does not feel lost. The student body is diverse with over 40 percent internationals. This school is also one of the most cost-efficient programs among top b-schools. The course load is high and one has to work hard to do well in this program. The only weak link are career services as far as internationals are concerned because most of the firms that recruit on campus do not sponsor internationals.

-Krannert has come up with a well-structured approach to teaching business administration at the graduate level. The combination of the intensive core curriculum, numerous electives, and experiential learning projects give students a high degree of flexibility to increase their skill set in whatever area they like. The program administration is very responsive to student feedback about almost every aspect of MBA student life, in and outside of class. For example, in the 2009-2010 academic year, a new, improved curriculum was put in place that was promoted and refined by students and faculty together.

-I think this program offers a great analytical foundation and was highly regarded by the companies that spoke to me. The size of the program allows students to really get to know one another, and the international mix is fantastic.

-I think that Krannert is becoming more attuned to students wants, however I would like to see a lot more material come out of industry applications. Cases can be sterilized examples to apply concepts, but we sacrifice reality and complexity at the expense of wrestling with competing viewpoints and agendas that are prevalent in business environments.
