-What makes our school unique is a combination of the strong placement, small school feeling, affordability and quality of the education. It really is special how we were able to have access to all of the above characteristics all in one program. Typically you give up one for the other, etc. Career services recognizes or logistical disadvantages and goes above and beyond to account for those factors. I was part of the Henry Fund Portfolio Team. The dollar size of our fund and quality of faculty guidance really is great. Accordingly our fund is very well respected.
-I believe that the school does not have good enough relationships with desirable/respected companies. Most of the relationships are with local (within 150 miles) companies. This would be fine if there were larger companies in the area, but most in this region are small.
-The overall size of the program is somewhat smaller than other Tier 1 and 2 schools, providing a more intimate classroom experience and a stronger network of outgoing colleagues. The newer concentrations surrounding strategy and innovation have also proven to be highly sought after in the job market.
-Additional companies recruiting on campus would be beneficial. The Overall quality of student (not related to grades or GMAT score - more along the lines of maturity and reasons for being in B-School) recruiting could be improved. Career services is not strong when reaching out to companies outside the Midwest.
-Incredibly personalized experience! The smaller class size allows students to engage with staff, faculty and administration constantly. In larger schools the dean hardly knows the students' names. My dean invited me and my parents to dinner at her house.
-Better employers to campus would be helpful. My search was more national so I spent a lot of my time traveling during job search season. If more employers came to campus it would have made the overall experience better.
-Our career services team is exceptional. They personally engage with students throughout their entire career at Tippie to help guide their job search and placement. The kind of interaction I have had with our career services team is unique to any other I have heard about from MBA's in other programs.
