HKUST Business School MBA Program is really a unique program. It offers huge diversity and large number of electives. At HKUST, one can complete the program in 16 months and the cost is much less. Faculty is superb and the quality of education is excellent. These are some of the reasons why I decided to go to HKUST Business School for MBA program.
Increase the marketing, especially in Europe and the US. Unfortunately the school is still relatively unknown outside Asia which is a shame as it is excellent but it has not capitalized on its previous successes (although I think this may have been improving in the last year). In the past it has seemed as though they have not wanted to go down the 'aggressively salesy' route of some US schools for fear of losing some of the uniqueness but I think this could have lost some international recognition that may have otherwise helped the graduates.
The diversity of students was beyond expectation. Diversity in terms of cultural and ethical background, work experiences, industry variety. The school made it compulsory for students to work in prearranged groups during the first six months, which consisted of people from different cultural/ethical and professional backgrounds - this helped to set the foundation of leadership and teamwork within diverse groups.
My only suggestion would be to be aggressive on the career front. I understand Chinese are generally Non-Aggressive, but when it comes to competency on a global scale, the school should not sit back with this mentality but rather ensure that recruitments and window of opportunities are always presented to the yearning students.
HKUST is in a unique position in terms of its location and its finance faculty. Hong Kong is the Asian financial hub and a gateway to China, where the global economic power has continually shifted to. Being in Hong Kong, I was well exposed to top talents in the industry especially in finance. Moreover, majority of HKUST's faculties are from the business world. Thus, students earn an opportunity to learn business cases from case owners and from not only academics perspectives but also business perspectives.
Due to its class size, approximately 100 students per intake, HKUST could not fully conduct on campus recruitment. This on campus recruitment is one of key important factors in considering to attend an MBA program.
