It places a strong emphasis on learning from others within the program. In my 10 years experience in the industry, I have learned that the best way to learn is from others. Also, it's Jesuit foundation provides a stronger ethics background than you would see elsewhere - a timely plus in today's market.
The Career Service office definitely needs to work on recruiting top companies to recruit at Fordham. With so many companies in the area, it is ridiculous that students must seek them out with no assistance from the University. Don't attend Fordham if you expect to have your next job handed to you at a career fair.
You need to be able to learn from not only the teachers, but from the individual experiences of the students. Fordham had a very diverse group of students, domestic and foreign, old and young, business majors and those taking courses for elective purposes. All of these factors contributed to an environment of constant education.
I think that being more selective in their admission process would be a big step in improving the program. Also, the number and quality of companies recruiting on campus could use improvement, although the school has indicated this is a priority and has demonstrated its commitment to seeing this happen. Many of the networking events are held on a weekday usually Thursday at 8pm. Many students who are working are either in class or are on their way home from work.
I enjoyed the concentration of media and entertainment. There aren't many schools that have a niche program in media management. I also like the fact that Fordham is located in central NYU, which made it easier for me to get internships with prominent media organizations
Given the proximity to so many business leaders in NYC, it would be helpful to have more access to them, such as a speaker series.
The professors at Fordham are top practitioners in their fields, who bringing exceptional practical knowledge to complement their academic prowess. The real-life practicality of the course structure provided a relevant and to-date education exploring real and current business problems.
Fordham's reputation is quite strong in NYC; however, stronger emphasis needs to be placed on overall rankings. The networking opportunities available to students are tremendous, but there are not enough of these companies that formally recruit on campus.
Fordham Graduate School of Business is unique in its central New York City location, which provides access to many companies and industries and creates unique internship opportunities. Also its flexibility in choosing your schedule and switching between part-time and full-time allows students the opportunities to get real hands on experience while doing more than one internship over the course of their studies.
