The wealth of academic experiences provided by Emory's Goizueta Business School truly makes the MBA program unique. The school offers over 90 electives, the bulk of which are experiential in nature. This unique learning method consists of hands-on consulting projects in almost every class that require deep interactions with the industry and is complemented by a number of guest speakers who are the top leadership within leading firms in the field. This helps students gain an outstanding perspective of how business really works by experiencing it in real life and brings academics to life. In addition, the diversity of the student body along with the breadth and depth of the number of events held on campus (career, academic, social and professional) provide strong intellectual development.
Increase the class size. Due to Emory's small class size, 135, the Career Management Center has trouble attracting companies to recruit on campus.
Goizueta Business is enhanced by the fact that it is located in a large diverse city, and by design has a small student body. The small student body means we have alumni that we can rely on, and we build a very cohesive next work within our own class. The large city is very helpful in preforming consulting projects within school as well as attracting business to recruit on campus.
While I understand most of finding a job is on the student, the Career Management Center could use some improvement. There were a few counselors there that I just did not trust.
The MBA program at Emory is truly unique due to its intimate community, high-quality education, and the extremely talented and high-caliber students that come here from all walks of life. The location of the school - Atlanta, is a huge advantage because it is in a major city and has tremendous opportunities in every field of management. Also, the faculty in every field is highly qualified, and excellent at creating a learning environment that puts structure around ambiguity.
It's a pet peeve of mine, but we are not allowed to use laptops in class. While it may help us concentrate, it prevents us from taking notes (a trick I learned in law school). Some people like it, others hate it. I feel it is patronizing and only fluffs the egos of the professors. I was not aware of the rule when I accepted.
One can chose electives starting second semester - all core courses end in 1st semester. Good courses and experienced faculty. Good experiential learning courses.
I think the program itself is very strong, but outside of the Southeast of the U.S., it is not well known. This is the trade off that GBS makes with its choice to remain small, and to recruit students largely from that part of the country; however, the school should work harder at communicating the value proposition to a larger part of the U.S. through employer relations and recruiting students from other regions, so that, if they return to that region after business school, the word of mouth about Emory can be spread.
The small class size and access to professors who truly know you. This allows for deeper and more meaningful relationships to be built while also gaining the experience of your classmates and professors if you want it.
I would like to see the program and professors to highlight more of their work. Sometimes the programs humbleness hold the program back from others knowing how great it is or forward thinking it can be.
Due to the small size, the sense of community at Emory is amazing. Having worked with MBA graduates from top schools across the country, I can proudly say that am probably the only one who knew each and every classmate.
Many of the top companies outside of the southeast region do not recruit on campus. Most of the time it is a non-issue because of alumni networking relationships, however, it would be helpful to have 'northern' companies on campus more often.
The collaborative environment is extremely important and creates a strong community between the students, staff, and faculty. Faculty has a strong desire for each student's individual success. Going to Goizueta Business School truly adds to your extended family.
