Additional school comments:
For experienced managers and executives that aspire to grow, both professionally and personally. The program is characterized by a personalized open-door approach and is highly international in terms of students, faculty, content and geographic locations. Small class size ensuring quality of service, individual attention and accessibility to faculty. Global reach: Both formats have modules in three continents: Europe, North America and Asia. Our program is also available in a monthly format. In this case it lasts for 22 months and participants attend classes one week per month with a total of 17 weeks out residential learning. Entirely taught in English.
The very personal learning experience and attentive and supportive administration team made the IESE experience a very welcomed one. The community works also now after graduation very well where I could, for example, very easily get in touch with the Tokyo alumni network of IESE. Also looking forward to the next Global Alumni reunion, which is this year being held in New York. Great to see the internationality of the school lives.
The best learning experience I ever could have imagined with a transformational impact on my professional and personal development. Also worth highlighting the world class facilities at IESE campuses - especially newly build campus in Barcelona, where we joined as first GEMBA class after opening of campus in 2007.
As an American, I would choose to attend a school in the US. The school is extremely week in job placements for those abroad - a fundamental disconnect for an international program. Also, networking contacts would be more valuable in US - a lesson in hind sight.
The Spanish-based school is working to establish its global presence further in the US. A further emphasize on Asia (classmates, faculty etc) would be great as well.
Before deciding for the Global Executive program at IESE I did quite some preparation: I compared several top business schools at the time (Kellogg's, LBS, Insead, IMD, IESE) and chose IESE for the format, the dedication & quality of teachers & staff, the emphasis on ethics, the network and the general management character. IESE has met and even exceeded my expectations in all these aspects.
My company did not support my joining the program. When after half a year they noticed how useful it was that I applied the new concepts directly in my job, they decided to contribute 25%. I was required to stay for 3 years after graduation. However, I did not. In addition to recognizing the EMBA by rewarding me a 25% higher salary, my new employer is paying me the 25% EMBA cost that I had to pay back to my previous employer.
The focus on a quality educational experience at IESE is extraordinary. The overall learning experience is difficult to surpass. IESE is a well known school in MBA circles, but within the US in particular, it lacks the public profile of national schools such as Harvard, Stanford or Columbia.
Without exception all professors had great academic backgrounds, many in addition had long business and management experiences. Although the program was tough - and some class mates had to leave - unfortunately - I would not have minded if some profs. would have been even stricter and more demanding in cases of poor or mediocre contribution or work.
I am very satisfied with the program and it was one of the most important and best decisions I have made in my life. If to name something, I was missing explicit classes on sales. Sales is not a task of the travelling sales men, but priority 1 job of the whole company , incl. the CEO. We had three classes on Marketing, one or two of which should have been on Sales.
The school had an excellent mix of international students with diverse professional backgrounds with modules held in different global locations to enhance its global nature. A key differentiator was the emphasis on ethics and work life balance while pursuing your career. Also the entrepreneurial focus was welcoming.
The program is currently one of the most expensive hence prohibitive for those who do not have financial support and this should be considered.
I would definitely chose the IESE GEMBA program again. The program delivered on its promise and my expectations The school is without doubt one of the best, if not the best in Europe, offering a diversity in international / European experience which is available in few (if any) other business school environments.
The IESE Barcelona campus is stunning -- literally the most beautiful place I've worked in my career. It is like going to school at a Four Seasons -- better actually as the place is more tasteful and functional. We had students starting to complain that the food was too good, so it was too easy to gain weight.
One of our Professors, Pedro Nueno, helped found the leading business school in China and, even, in Asia - CEIBS. Studying at CEIBS in Shanghai was a highlight of the program. Anything the program can do to enhance this relationship further could be useful.
