-Pursuing my MBA at the Jones Graduate School of Business has been a fruitful experience. From an academic perspective, the blend of lecture, case discussion, team work and action-based learning promoted creative and practical thinking. Additionally, the school's relatively small class size fostered a family culture between students with long lasting relationships that would extend beyond the MBA program.
-Houston is an excellent place for MBA recruiting. The Rice MBA program is so unique and offers a truly remarkable experience. The mix between academic professors and adjunct practitioners is excellent and makes for a program that inspires personal and professional growth.
-At Rice, in addition to the world-class technical business education, students gain access to a surprisingly influential and global alumni network. I knew I wanted to stay in Houston post-graduation, so Rice was my top choice. However, I have classmates going all over the country post-graduation, which speaks to the growing national reputation of the Rice MBA brand. The program is young and small, but has employed a great strategy of controlled growth in order to keep the focus on quality, not quantity.
-We call the Rice MBA program, the "Rice Family." It is small town-ish, everyone knows everyone else, and one is not allowed to not contribute to the class, the program, and the atmosphere. One matters here. One is not allowed to fade in the background and just get by. The small town, family feel was very important to me and vastly exceeded my expectations.
-If you are looking to work in the energy industry and want a small school atmosphere, then Rice is a great place to be.
-Rice offers a comprehensive program that is both challenging and rewarding. The student calibre in the classroom is excellent and the small size offers an intimidate feeling with both you and the professors.
-The school is small enough that you can have great one-on-one relationships with faculty and easy access to career counselors, yet large enough that you have good diversity in the types of courses you can take. The administration is very committed to pleasing the students and bettering the academic environment.
-At times, there should be an emphasis on lowering the academic pressure to better able students to spend more time in finding an internship or a job
-I have learned both the hard skills (core finance, accounting, marketing, strategy) as well as the equally, if not more important soft skills (leadership, communications, organizational behavior, change management) while at Rice. Although the knowledge I have gained at Rice is extremely valuable, the most important parts of the Rice MBA program are my relationships with my classmates, faculty, and staff. The network I have established will help define my future, both professionally and relationally.
