QUESTION: Imagine that during business school orientation, you are assigned to a three-person team. This is the team you will work with on projects and assignments throughout the first semester. If you had the opportunity to select one (and only one) person to be on this team with you, whom would you select and why? This person may be living or deceased (Limit 1 page/250 words.)

I would pick Moses from the Bible. Moses had several qualities that would make him an asset to a group.

Moses had excellent interpersonal skills, as he was able to effectively interact with many people of different thoughts, ideas, and positions. Moses worked with people from twelve different tribes, negotiated with Egyptian leaders, commanded over a hundred thousand people. Moses understood his strengths and weaknesses. Moses recognized that he was not a good speaker, and therefore delegated the duties of speaking to the people to Aaron, his brother. Therefore, Moses was able to focus on other tasks. A good group member must understand his/her strengths as well as weaknesses, and therefore focus on strengths and allow other people to work on their strengths.

Moses was able to deal with adversity, and never gave up his fight for his people; he remained a steadfast advocate for his people. When his people prayed to the golden calf, thereby breaking a law, he remained an advocate of the Jewish people. An ideal group member will always work for the group's best interest, and understand that occasionally group member will make mistakes. Moses had considerable patience; the Pharaoh let the Jewish people leave Egypt only to change his opinion and get the Jews back into Egypt. This process occurred through ten plagues. The Jewish people stayed in the Sinai dessert for forty years, and Moses remained a leader of the Jewish people during that time.
