JANUARY 2003 MBA JOURNAL: B-SCHOOL REVIEW Dana Kyles: Reflections on the Overall MBA Experience "As I reflect on B-School, the only summation that comes to mind is, it was cool. That is probably the understatement of the year, but that is the best summation I have right now." TODAY... Graduation day was very exciting. My family and friends came down to help me celebrate. The ceremony was nice but the best part was afterwards when a bunch of us went to lunch with our families. The movers came the next day and I was out!!!! I spent a week in Detroit then started work the following Monday. The adjustment from school to work has been easy. Work can be difficult sometimes but it's a lot easier than school. The environment is demanding but laid back and I like that. More career opportunities are also becoming available because we were just bought by a German company, E.ON. That makes us, LG&E Energy Co, the largest investor-owned utility in the world. The hardest part of the transition is developing my social life from scratch. I attend an awesome church where I met wonderful people but the single professional scene at large is not active. Louisville, KY is a family-oriented community. Thus, finding a local circle of friends can be challenging, but hopefully will get better over time. TOMORROW... When I think about my future, my professional career is not in the forefront of my mind. I have at least 24 years of work ahead of me and I do not care to dwell on the future for the moment. I am satisfied with where I am professionally and will concentrate on experiences that will make me a well-rounded individual. Remember my motto from the first journal, "Understanding that the Earth is my personal playground, I pledge to explore, experience, and elaborate on each endeavor in order to better myself and the world around me." I am going to focus on the explore part! I would love to travel abroad, get more into the arts, become an community leader, etc... YESTERDAY... As I reflect on B-School, the only summation that comes to mind is, it was cool. That is probably the understatement of the year, but that is the best summation I have right now. It was good. It was money well spent. If I could do it again, I would. The few things I would change about the program have been changed, so what more can I say? It was a good fit for me and I liked it. It was cool. Well guys and gals, this is it. Throughout the years, I have given you my run down on B-school life. It has been a pleasure to document my experiences and share them with you. Good luck with your B-school endeavors and take care of yourselves. That's All Folks!!!!
