Significant changes since 1997

A seven-part Comprehensive Strategic Assessment has been developed in which each individual uses the learning in one of our five residence periods to analyze his or her own business unit or organization. These are compiled with recommendations for action and provided to the company at the end of the program.

A two-day experiential exercise in leadership has been added which takes place in the Smoky Mountains.

Increased emphasis on external driving forces on the firm.

Special trips or projects outside of country
Mandatory

The school's trip is a two week seminar in countries with economies in transition. There is a rotation between South America, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Work includes at least two, and often three, visits per day with companies, government officials and lectures from professors. In addition to the visits arranged, each student is responsible for designing an individual visit that will gather information for his or her company. Each student prepares a strategic assessment at the end of the trip.

Distance-learning opportunities via Internet, videoconferencing, or other medium

Distance or Web based learning content N/A Group work done via the Internet 2%

The school believes that the best Executive MBA learning experience is a combination of face-to-face and distance instruction. For example, the school's PEMBA program meets in residence weeks four times a year, synchronous learning classes are conducted every Saturday morning, and asynchronous Internet work is required once a week.

Programs for the spouses of Executive MBA candidates

Spouses are invited to come to campus for a Friday and a Saturday. They will have afternoon classes in work/family balance. There is a "fancy" dinner on Friday evening. On Saturday class and spouses go whitewater rafting and conclude with dinner at the home of one of the faculty members on Saturday evening.
