Description
|
This small-group, dialogue-based seminar focuses on the ideas and values of the Western tradition, and helps participants identify the assumptions and values that frame their choices and relationships.
Trained moderators guide participants in an exploration of readings by, among others, Aristotle, Machiavelli, Adam Smith, John Locke, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Vaclav Havel. Through debate and independent reflection, participants apply those lessons to contemporary issues and situations. They examine how thought guides action and how an individual's decisions can affect a corporation or an entire society. By exploring higher-order dimensions of leadership, participants identify, interrogate, defend, and enrich their own performance as senior executives.

Description
|
Participants explore the controversial issues facing senior business leaders in a global marketplace. They consider the challenges of conducting business in cultures different than their own, and reconciling or managing differing values sets. Participants also address the issue of corporate citizenship, and business' growing relationship with government, nonprofit institutions, the press, and other external groups. The changing employer-employee relationship is another key topic, and participants consider how to accommodate changing lifestyles and employees' needs while satisfying organizational objectives.
This course's ultimate aim is to help leaders align the efforts of a diverse and widely dispersed workforce to achieve a common set of shared strategic objectives.

Description
|
This seminar is directed at professionals who are either engaged in or anticipating the implementation of a major change initiative within their organization. Participants consider general principles of leading change and measuring success, as well as belief systems and structures that impede or accelerate change. Strong leadership is a crucial component of effective change initiatives, and participants will focus closely on both the leader's role and mistaken assumptions about the nature and imperatives of leadership and management. The executives examine the nature and sources of resistance to change, and consider how leaders can gain followers' support for change.
The seminar also will explore ways of making the business culture receptive to ongoing change and ensuring that particular changes become embedded in culture and practice.

Description
|
This seminar helps participants understand how the values and beliefs of China have shaped its business and political environment. Participants consider the extent to which China's rapid increase in economic development and world trade are being shaped by its long cultural history, and the impact of this tradition on concepts such as human rights and economic modernization. In addition, participants will examine the similarities and differences in the cultures of the People's Republic of China, other "Chinese states," and Hong Kong's recurring role as a link between China and the West. By focusing on the present-day impact of Western values on East Asia and vice versa, participants will leave with a fuller understanding of the opportunities and risks of East-West relationships.

Description
|
This program was designed for young executives -- especially minorities and women -- who have been identified by their companies as having top-management potential. Its aim is to help them develop leadership skills that will help them thrive in top corporate positions. In the morning dialogue sessions, which are based on classical and contemporary texts and business case studies, participants focus on fundamental societal values such as liberty, equality, efficiency, and community. However, the heart of the six-day program is the hands-on role played by prominent leaders. In their direct dialogues with the participants, these resource guests share real-life leadership experiences and address the most important business leadership issues of our time, such as setting new directions, allocating scarce resources, coping with change, and balancing career and family responsibilities.
