Q: How can students successfully develop a network?
A:
As a former recruiter, I saw many MBAs trying to get into the MBA job market with undergraduate career skills. They're just not competitive. They really have to be in the right place saying the right things to the right people.

The MBA degree is not like the FBI witness protection program, which gives you an automatic six-figure bank account, erases your entire past, and puts you in a nice, warm location of your choice.

MBA students really have to roll up their sleeves, learn how to compete successfully at the MBA level, and be intentional with the time they spend and how they communicate. If they do all that, then they have a much better success rate and higher job satisfaction.

Q: Do you offer any services for international students?
A:
We have one staff person dedicated to international students. We offer them about a dozen programs specifically to address their needs. We're spending additional time on the basic parts of an American career search because some of what we do -– networking, informational interviewing, cold calling -– is not culturally appropriate in their home countries.

Q: What kinds of services do you offer alumni?
A:
We give them access to all of our job listings and electronic career resources. We will be incorporating much of the education that we're going to deliver to our MBAs and undergraduates this fall into our alumni services in the next couple of years. Our goal is to become the first point of contact for any of our alumni in transition.

Q: What legacy would you like to leave at Olin?
A:
I'd like to have been part of the team that opened up the eyes of the world to the curriculum and students that we have.
