    Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina

    Professor Dean holds a Ph.D., Carnegie Mellon University (1983), a MS from Carnegie Mellon University (1981), and a BA from Catholic University (1978). His areas of expertise include international management, leadership, management, organizations, change, quality, and strategic management. As a senior examiner he was awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

    Professor Dean serves as a consultant with Alcoa, Corning, DuPont, GE, Honeywell and Westinghouse, and was the director of the National Science Foundation's Transformations to Quality Organizations program.

    Publications include "Does Decision-Making Matter? A Study of Strategic Decision-Making Effectiveness," Academy of Management Journal, 1996; "The Strategic Use of Integrated Manufacturing," Strategic Management Journal, 1996; "Human Resource Management, Manufacturing Strategy, and Firm Performance," Academy of Management Journal, 1996; and "Total Quality and Management Theory," Academy of Management Review, 1994.
