    Professor, Krannert School, Purdue University

    Professor Arnold Cooper teaches strategic management and entrepreneurship. He has served on the faculties or as a visiting scholar at the Harvard Business School, Stanford University, The Wharton School, Manchester Business School (England), and IMEDE Management Development Institute (Switzerland).

    His current research interests include: influences upon entrepreneurship and the performance of new firms, strategic responses to technological threats, and relationships between strategy and performance. He has also studied the management of technology. He has consulted on problems relating to strategic planning, general management, and management of new and small firms.

    Professor Cooper's recent publications include "The Role of Firm Resources and Organizational Attributes in Determining Entry Timing: A Cross-Industry Study" (with T. Schoenecker), Strategic Management Journal (forthcoming); "Survival of the Fittest? Entrepreneurial Human Capital and the Persistence of Underperforming Firms" (with J. Gemeno, T. Folta, and C. Woo), Administrative Science Quarterly (December 1997); "Entrepreneurial Information Search" (with T. Folta and C. Woo), Journal of Business Venturing (March 1995); and "Determinants of Satisfaction for Entrepreneurs" (with K. Artz), Journal of Business Venturing (November 1995).

    He is past chairman, Division of Business Policy and Strategy, Academy of Management, and is a fellow of the Academy of Management. He has served on the Federal Advisory Board on Industrial Innovation and the Indiana Employment Development Commission. He has served on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and The Journal of Business Venturing. In 1997, he received the "International Award for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Research," a lifetime contributions award.
