SURVEY DETAILS

At No. 24, Purdue climbed back into BW's 1998 Top 25 after having been knocked out in '96. Krannert's reemergence is due largely to Dean Dennis Weidenaar's efforts to get the school's 376 full-time students more involved. Grad satisfaction, however, was concentrated around placement.
For the most part, a two-year stay at Krannert ended up being lucrative. Grads could boast about their average of four job offers apiece (tops in the Top 25), their 98% increase in postgraduate base salary (from $34,300 prior to B-school to $67,694 afterwards), and the school's 97% placement rate by graduation. Overall, Krannert's Class of 1998 took home pay packages worth an average of $99,418. Moreover, almost 20% of the class received stock options as part of their comp packages. Recruiters, meanwhile, continued to consider Krannert grads to be among the most capable in operations, ranking them sixth-best in that category, and also scored them in the top 10 for their technology abilities.

STRATEGY FOR APPLICANTS
| |
As you might expect from a quant-heavy program such as Krannert, GMAT scores, undergraduate grades, and work experience weight heavily in admissions decisions. In fact, the essay portion of the application is quite small, consisting of little more than 1,000 words addressing your education and career goals, your qualifications that could benefit Krannert classmates, and a character-building situation you've encountered. Interviews have not been a big part of the admissions process heretofore -- only 20 percent of admitted applicants interviewed on campus in 1998 -- but admissions officials say that's changing, and the school may soon move to interview nearly every applicant. All applicants with less than a year's work experience are required to interview.
Until a more extensive interviewing program is put in place, the admissions office will be requesting some candidates to come in for a face-to-face meeting; others who wish to schedule an interview may call the office, but only after Krannert has received your entire application package. You may also request a campus tour, or visit the Krannert Web site for a virtual walk around the place. If you submit your application by November 1, the admissions office guarantees a response by December 15 for domestic applicants. International students must have their applications in by the school's February 1 deadline.

Grading System
Each course has its own grade and students are graded on a combination of individual and group work. Krannert has an internal grading system that is used for determining academic standing and honors. The system uses letter grades with +/- values. However the Purdue system reports only straight letter grades. Thus, grades of B+ or B- would both be B's on the student's official transcript. Faculty are given guidelines for grade distributions that vary slightly between core and elective courses.
Exchange Programs or International Campuses
Currently Krannert has such relationships only for its Executive MBA program.
