Graduates' Comments:

The international management experience offered an incredible opportunity to visit either Europe or Asia for a month, earning 3 credits. The curriculum required the students to visit around 15 companies and government agencies, touring the facilities and conducting round-table discussions with CEOs or government representatives. The students prepared for the trip through cultural studies and company and industry reviews. Additionally, the extracurricular sightseeing was spectacular and enlightening. --Consulting

The addition of Dean Hassell McClellan has greatly enhanced the program's chances of becoming truly competitive in the next few years. I have been back to BC to witness the Diane Weiss competition (a consulting project competition for first-years) and the level of presentations, content, and talent is noticeably better. --Consultant

This program deserves a very close look as it is changing rapidly -- great new teachers, a very dedicated dean, balance of teamwork, entrepreneurial activity, and organized classes. This should be a top program in the coming years once they get the placement issues ironed out. --Consultant

While I was a student GCSOM, the school was going through a transition period. The new graduate dean had just taken office and realized that the school was not providing recruiters with the MBAs they were looking for. Boston College does a very good job in providing its students with a well rounded education. Students are not only required to write business plans, but also are required to complete consulting projects. These two projects give students enough preparation to enter the business world as entrepreneurs or as consultants. --Consulting

BC has made a lot of effort in making the MBA program a good learning experience. The school building is well-equipped to enhance the learning process. Most BC professors are very helpful towards students and have excellent knowledge in their field. Extra-curricular activities such as Case Competition not only help to promote the school's reputation, but also allow students to be evaluated by industry practitioners. However, I wish BC had put more effort into bringing more finance companies to recruit on campus. --Finance

Boston College is an excellent academic institution. The workload is extremely arduous in comparison to other local institutions (i.e.: Boston University, Babson, Northeastern). I had close friends attending these other schools and they could not believe the scale and scope of the projects that we undertook as MBA students. The work is, at times, grueling but in the end, rewarding. I felt that I have learned a tremendous amount in a short amount of time. --No job track given

In addition, I feel that the school pushes students to do their best work. However, there are times when the workload is too much and class assignments cannot possibly be completed. I remember at one point we had over 1,000 pages of assigned readings in one week; my eyes didn't stop twitching for a month! I felt that the professors may not have realized how much reading others were assigning and how little time full-time students had to complete the readings. --No job track given

Another problem is the overwhelming team assignments. The first semester, we had one team that worked together on all projects, which ended up working well. However, after that we had different teams for every class, with team projects in every class. Scheduling becomes a real problem especially when classes are mixed with full-time and part-time students. Toward the end of the semesters, students are meeting all weekend long as part-time students work all day and full-time students have class every night. After two or three weeks of being at school every day we started to get tired and burnt out. Beside these shortcomings, I would say BC's MBA program is very good! --Finance

The curriculum should be improved to students' demands for finance knowledge in the first year. Its Career Services is in urgent need of improvement to help students' job hunting in resume critique, regular one-to-one consulting, network, and promotion. Students' behavior codes need to be improved to create a comfortable learning environment. --Finance
