STRATEGY FOR APPLICANTS
| |
Unlike many accelerated MBA programs, Katz does not require applicants to have an undergraduate business degree, although it wouldn't hurt in coping with the heavy workload. The program draws a few applicants each year from professions such as law and medicine who intend to stick with those careers but feel some business acumen would be helpful. The school encourages candidates to apply early, which is even more essential now that the number of places per class has been slashed. Full-time applications are reviewed every four to six weeks from November through May. Those who'd like any early answer should try to meet one of the school's priority deadlines in January, February, or March; international applicants must have their paperwork in by February 15.
Katz says it seeks applicants who are highly motivated and have demonstrated leadership in work, extracurricular activities, community service, and their personal lives. Considering the rigor of the program, you'll also want to emphasize your ability to handle pressure, motivate yourself, and manage your time well. Personal interviews are encouraged, but only 41 percent of those admitted to the class of 2000 had face-to-face meetings with admissions officers. Group information sessions are held regularly throughout the year; call the admissions office for a schedule and to set up an interview, class observation, and student-led tour.
