STRATEGY FOR APPLICANTS
The hurdles for getting into this program are a bit higher for non-Mormons, so don't just look at the GMAT and GPA averages and figure you're a shoo-in if you're well above them. The acceptance rate of 42 percent is somewhat misleading because the applicant pool is small -- many students don't bother to apply because the ethics code and school culture don't fit their lifestyles. In evaluating applications, the admissions office looks closely at past academic performance, analytical reasoning capabilities, and full-time work experience, and asks you in essays to describe your career goals, demonstrate past leadership, and, for LDS members, to show how your MBA can contribute to the mission of the church. You're expected to have completed basic courses in college algebra or calculus, accounting, economics, and statistics before entering the program.

All applicants are now required to interview; while it's strongly encouraged that you come to campus to talk with admissions officers, those who simply can't make it to Provo can interview by telephone or speak in person with alumni in their area. Call the admissions office to arrange a visit. Marriott has a new January 15 priority deadline for international students and others wishing an early decision; if your paperwork's in by that date, you'll get a reply by February 28. Those who meet the March 1 deadline can expect to hear something by April 30.
