Graduates' Comments:

The attention received inside and outside of class enables a student to develop as a professional to the fullest of one's potential. The new Dean (Carolyn Woo) and her staff are an exceptinally talented group of people committed to the excellence of the program and willing to make the changes necessary to make the ND MBA an even more rewarding experience. They are willing to cope with the vastly changing business environment, which will permit them to keep the program current with today's and tommorrow's topics. --Finance

The responsiveness of the administration to student concerns has been excellent. A lot of changes have been made, such as changing professors for the core courses and increasing resources, as a result of student feedback. This will help to greatly improve the MBA Program over the next couple of years. --Finance

Dean Woo has ushered in a new era at the University of Notre Dame Business School. Her hard work and dedication has made a noticable difference in just this one year that I've been here. I am confident that she will lead the program into the top 25. The teachers have always been here and the students are fantastic. Notre Dame has been waiting for a leader like her to leverage the incredible people here into a world class institution.--Finance

Dean Carolyn Woo has injected a spirit of excitement, not to mention a strategic plan, that will carry the program well into the next century. I have found Notre Dame's administrators to be extremely responsive to student needs. There is a noticeable desire among the administration to become a top 20 school and I believe Notre Dame will achieve this goal in the near future. The caliber of students is excellent. With so many classmates with significant work experience, class discussions find a great balance between theoretical & practical approaches to issues. There is a special cohesive bond at Notre Dame -- truly a feeling that you've become part of the 'Notre Dame Family.' Notre Dame is unlike any other school in the country not only because it is a place that strives for academic excellence but primarily because it is a place that believes in a higher reality as seen through its strong foundation in the Catholic faith. --Assistant Accounting Manager

In the two years I have been at Notre Dame, the MBA program has undergone an incredible transformation. Under the leadership of a new Dean Carolyn Woo and new Assistant Dean Becky Mela, the program has absolutely made great strides forward. There is an entire new Program Office staff that is extremely responsive, a new Career Development Director, a new Admissions Director, etc. The University has also shown a new heightened commitment to the MBA program that many university officials say is unparalleled, as evidenced by the recent recruitment of several high-profile chaired professorships. Most importantly, Notre Dame has made all of these changes while retaining its unique small class sizes, its highly personalized/family atmosphere, and its great learning environment. --Brand Manager

Notre Dame provides intangibles to her students. Though not typically measured by MBA surveys, these intangibles create an incredible learning environment built on a base of ethics, values, and "family". The family starts with Dean Carolyn Woo. She is one of the most amazing people I have had the opportunity to work with. She is dedicated to creating the most dynamic learning environment possible at Notre Dame. While at the same time, she does not lose sight of the everyday affairs of the people affected most, the students.--No career path given

The family also includes the 100,000 strong and proud alumni spread throughout the country. I have never felt any qualms contacting an alum in the job search process. My phone calls have been met with enthusiasm and generosity. Only at Notre Dame is this consistently possible.--Human Resources

The University of Notre Dame is currently undergoing major changes. Under Dean Carolyn Woo's and Associate Dean Bill Nichols' stewardship, the program has a new administrative MBA staff and three new core course instructors. The MBA program, however, has left the crucial position "Director of Admissions" vacant for over a year, and the career placement department needs serious help. The finance department is exceptional (thanks to Professors Affleck-Graves and Reilly). Student camaraderie is also very strong. I studied in Santiago, Chile, during the fall 1997 semester. The abroad experience greatly enhanced my MBA experience--Finance

In academic terms, I feel that the MBA program at Notre Dame is superb. The course work and especially the instruction were outstanding and provided me with the necessary skills and tools to move into a managerial position with a Fortune 500 company. Adding to the experience were the numerous opportunities to meet and converse with visiting industry leaders. The greatest challenge facing the program is improving the effectiveness of the Career Development Office. Progress is evident, but much more is needed to bring the office's performance up to the expectations of the students. Areas of particular concern are placement of international students, increasing the number and type of companies interviewing on campus, maintaining a current contact book, and expanding the current regional scope of recuiting efforts.--Finance

The small class size and integrated curriculum provide an outstanding environment in which to learn. A degree from Notre Dame also plugs you into a vast and committed network of alumni, 'the Notre Dame Family'. The doors which that network can open are truly impressive. Recently, the MBA programs at ND have undergone significant, positive changes. A new dean and a new administration have brought a new committment to success. Individuals looking for an opportunity to grow and lead will not be dissapointed at ND. Finally, I believe the finance department deserves special mention. The courses are demanding and the professors are excellent -- providing students with both the knowledge and the confidence to compete at any level.--Consulting

The finance program here at Notre Dame is usually competent in preparing students for finance/investment banking careers. The coursework and career track are demanding and haves been favorable in my job search. Once recruiters understand the level of my finance and valuation skills, they are genuinely impressed -- a 100% offer rate is proof. All that is needed is a bit of publicity on the program's (finance) strength. --Senior Consultant

After reviewing and studying many Business School guides I chose to apply to a few schools where the student satisfaction level was high. Notre Dame had a high student satisfaction rate, was ranked in the top 25 by recruiters and offered a one-year program. Without question this is the best decision I've ever made. There is tremendous opportunity for individuals who want a career in Corporate Finance or Consulting. Given the school's Midwest location and national name recognition, Notre Dame places many of the students in either consulting or corporate finance. --Finance

My MBA education was everything I had expected and hoped it would be. The exposure I had to faculty and the friendships I have made will last and benefit me throughout my professional career and personal life. While many think that the Notre Dame MBA lacks a particular focus, I think that is a strength of the program. It gives the program diversity in the students it attracts. This is not to say that the MBA program does not excel in a particular area of study (Finance, Marketing, etc.). Rather, it gives the program a difference in the types of people who attend with different backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations.--Finance

The Notre Dame MBA program has taken some very important steps this year that will enable the school to continue to innovate and produce excellent graduates. This was Dean Carolyn Woo's first year, and she is really outstanding. She will definitely be one to watch as she enhances the MBA program. The school also received an endowment this year for entrepreneurial studies, which will further studies in this important area. More importantly, the MBA program at Notre Dame has an excellent faculty that is committed to producing the best MBA graduates. I concentrated in finance and found that the professors did an excellent job at blending the theory with the practical application. They were able to do this because they had extensive ongoing relations with professionals in the business community. --Finance

The University of Notre Dame's MBA offers a combination of two items that a student could not find in any other program: a one-year program and a top-notch investment program. Some schools may have one or the other, but not both (at least not to the extent of Notre Dame). The Applied Investment Management (team taught by Frank Reilly, John Affleck-Graves, and the University's CIO -- Scott Malpass) and Security Analysis (Frank Reilly) course are as good as it gets. For that matter, Frank Reilly alone is reason enough for any investments person to come to Notre Dame. As far as I am concerned, he is the top investments professor in the country, due to his years of academic-related achievement and ties to the "real world." --Finance

The classes were challenging, professors motivating, and the environment was nurturing yet always encouraging me to be the best student and person I could be. In addition to the incredible alumni network at ND, there is a mystique about the school and the experience that goes far beyond the MBA program's rank.--Marketing

The familial environment of the campus make teamwork and cooperation the norm rather than the exception; while the alumni network is second to none. Clearly, the University of Notre Dame is not for everyone, but for those who are interested in learning from exceptional professors and classmates, in a small classroom setting, this is the place to be. Dean Carolyn Woo and Asst. Dean Rebecca Mela have truly energized the program. --Marketing

My two years in the Notre Dame MBA program passed far too quickly. Never before have I had the opportunity to interact with such brilliant people. We worked hard together, and played hard as well. My fellow students shared experiences from their professional careers that greatly enhanced my education and the applicability of the knowledge I gained in the classroom. The faculty became like professional colleagues, not only stimulating my desire to learn and providing me with the tools to build a successful career, but also by becoming friends and respecting my ideas. The administration did a fine job of keeping the students organized and informed, while career and placement provided us with the tools to assess our career goals and identify potential employers. --Consulting

An important part of my experience at Notre Dame has been the "out of classroom" interaction with classmates and faculty. It was important to me to find a school where students got involved with the community, were able to have a direct impact on the program and didn't feel that academic success was the only reason to be at the school.--Finance

I feel extremely satisfied with my experience at Notre Dame. The MBA Program has all the characteristics that are required to effectively enhance the student's managerial and technical skills. A state-of-the-art building with award-winning technologies coupled with the talent of seasoned faculty dedicated to the highest standards of scholarship make Notre Dame a superior place. During these two years, I had excellent professors who were always at the leading edge of knowledge. Their commitment, enthusiasm, and dedication was instrumental in the learning process.--Finance

There were three key drivers to the positive experience I've had here at Notre Dame. First, the atmosphere of community and friendship is amazing. The people that come to this school are its unique feature. Second, I had the unique experience of being enrolled in the three-semester MBA program. With this program I was able to get my MBA in 11 months rather than 2 years. The program allows for students with business backgrounds to enter an accelerated program. Third, the network of Notre Dame alumni available to help job seeking students is incredible. The alumni are more than willing to give honest opinions about companies and careers.--Consulting

I went on the Notre Dame study abroad program in London, England. It was a fantastic experience and really added an incredible amount to my MBA experience. I don't think my peers who did not go received as good of an international perspective as those of us who did. --Consulting

I participated in one of Notre Dame's abroad programs (London) in the fall semester of my second year. This was certainly one of the most positive learning experiences that I have had throughout my educational career. The professors from London Business School and the London School of Economics, among others, were highly knowledgeable and wonderful resources for us educationally as well as being personal contacts while living abroad. Notre Dame's international programs are most valuable and are frequently tied in to other courses back at the campus in South Bend. These opportunities to live and study abroad, along with the international awareness in a majority of MBA classes make Notre Dame one of the most globally savvy programs around. --Consulting
