1999 Profile Update School Profile School Statistics Graduates' Comments: William & Mary's MBA program is one the best-kept secrets in the graduate business world. The program is very small, teachers are top-notch, and in-state tuition is unbeatable. William & Mary's MBA program should be commended for the high quality, value-added education that it offers to its students. The first-year curriculum is intense and grueling, but well worth the effort. --Consulting W&M is incredibly inexpensive given the quality of the education. In the time that I have spent here I have found both the faculty and the administration extremely interested and attentive to the few concerns I have had about the program. --No career path given William & Mary's graduate business program is truly exceptional for its size. The professors place a strong emphasis on teaching the students in a personal manner, and the small environment fosters quality learning. My classmates are more helpful than competitive -- a refreshing departure from many business school programs. --Marketing I am completely satisfied with the quality of teaching and material presented to me at William & Mary. In my internship, I felt better prepared in terms of the tools I gained during my first year of classes than fellow interns from Carnegie Mellon and the University of Southern California. However, our placement office is mediocre at best and needs to improve. Fortunately, the program is aware of this problem, and is moving to address the need. --Unemployed The teaching, faculty, and educational curriculum at William & Mary are exceptional. The career development aspect of the school lags behind but is being combated with a new Placement Director and a new focus from our newly appointed Dean Pulley. Our faculty is excellent, well focused and very helpful. --Information Technology The school's strong points are its small class sizes, the individual attention available from professors, professors' interest in students and their careers, the administration's desire to keep improving the school and the experience provided to students, the focus on giving students extensive experience interacting in groups, and the emphasis on assignments that mimic projects often performed in the professional world. --No career path given The staff at William & Mary has taken great strides to fully integrate critical lessons on functional business skills, leadership and teamwork, networking and job search skills, and opportunities for practical application of theory. Particularly noteworthy are the exceptional quality of finance, marketing, and operations instructors. Staff and students are genuinely interested in creating a strong sense of community, and classmates are extremely supportive of each other. --Operations The program at William & Mary can compete with any of the top business schools. The classes are small, and all the students follow the same core curriculum with the same professors. This makes it easy for classmates to work together in projects or when preparing for exams. --Marketing William and Mary stresses the quantitative aspect of solving complex business problems in a team environment and incorporates such tools into its classes. Our graduates have been widely complimented for their strong work ethic and ability to apply both business tools and theory to a wide range of business problems. It seems that the graduates of some MBA programs can rest on the reputation of their school, but William and Mary graduates provide results that earn them respect. --Finance My quantitative and analytical skills progressed the most in this program, and I received solid training in information technology. However, I would like to see a core course in ethics. Tough decisions are a part of being a manager, and some guidance in how to think about reaching those decisions is important.--Consulting The caliber of companies recruiting on our campus was excellent in the area of consulting. However, many students felt frustrated by the quality of companies coming to campus for other disciplines. This will likely improve with the new Placement Director. --Consulting Back to Top 1999 Profile Update School Profile School Statistics |
