STUDENT COMMENTS
My experience at Olin has been wonderful. In every way, I have been prepared to enter the workforce with all sorts of tools and teachings.
The Weston Career Center is phenomenal.
I really enjoyed my undergraduate experience at WashU. My only complaint would be the lack of diversity in companies coming to recruit on campus, especially for marketing positions.
Olin School of Business offers a London Internship program. There you take two accelerated classes focusing on finance and international business with emphasis on the political and economic aspects of the European Union. It includes a 15-week internship which you must interview for, and an extensive (80-plus pages) research paper.
I feel much better prepared than any of my nonbusiness school friends to enter a professional field.
School does a great job teaching you in class by providing outstanding teachers and facilities, but it seems like the career services department is not up to par. Definitely the weakest part of the Business School.
The Business School is extremely responsive to the concerns of students instead of just paying lip-service. The administration makes a concerted effort to seek feedback regularly from the undergrads, and then actually makes changes based on that feedback.
The faculty is more accessible than I could have ever imagined. I can truthfully say that some of my professors have become friends of mine outside of the classroom, and that has been a rare treat.
I have second-round interviews at the top consulting firms, including Bain, Deloitte, McKinsey, and Mercer. I think this is testimony to the quality of the education and the students that attend Washington University.
Recruiting was a problem in recent years, since firms have yet to realize the aptitude of students in this Midwestern school. But the career center has been very aggressive, and I have found that almost all of the top companies have recruited with Olin either through on-campus recruiting or a résumé drop. Companies seem to be increasingly amazed with the aptitude of Olin undergraduate students.
The career center tries hard. The employee relation advisers are great. However, we don't have anywhere near the number of firms coming to campus as we should. Most of the career center staff is not very helpful. It is way too hard for us to get jobs.
I cannot say enough good things about the Olin School. The quality of my peers is impressive and still surprises me. The professors are accessible and happy to help. Finally, the staff of the Career Center has been great and without a doubt helped prepare me for my job/internship hunt.
Wash U's International Program in London really sets it apart. A demanding semester of classes, full-time internship, and thesis work really gave me a well-rounded international experience.
I knew nothing about business before joining the business program at Washington University and now I feel completely confident and am ready to enter the business world upon graduation. The quality of my professors and classes has been impressive and the career services offered here are outstanding. In addition, the events I have participated in through the school have helped to build relationships with peers and network with professors and professionals in all fields of business.
Through various classes in the business school, have had the opportunity to apply class concepts by working with various organizations in the area.
