STUDENT COMMENTS

I feel very confident as I approach graduation. I think Santa Clara has prepared me with the skills to enter the working world with an advantage. Additionally, the connections I can use and opportunities that are a result of Santa Clara alum are vast.

The accounting department is very active in setting up accounting majors with internships. They work in conjunction with the student-run Accounting Assn. to host events with accounting firms. At one major event, called "Meet the Firms," over 20 financial or accounting firms set up booths to recruit students. I am confident that by the time I graduate, I will have a job offer at a CPA firm. In 2006, 81% of the graduating accounting seniors had jobs at CPA firms and 73% of the juniors had summer internships.

I believe that Santa Clara prepared us well. A lot of the classes involve hands-on learning vs. just theories. For example, I have a special finance class that allows us to apply what we've learned from a previous class and invest in the stock market with the school's endowment fund. It's a very unique class that is not offered in many other universities. This was a great experience because it forced us to learn on our own and really just roll up our sleeves and get into it. However the public overlooks us because we're such a small school.

If you want to be in the center of Silicon Valley with an upper hand on all the jobs offered by Fortune 500 companies, SCU is a great choice. In addition, the atmosphere is most friendly and inviting.

I have been very satisfied with my entire expreience at Santa Clara. I could not have chosen a better college. I feel that I am the most satisfied with my school of anyone I have talked to. I am so proud to be a part of the Santa Clara University's Business Dept.

My experience has been mixed within the school. I have had outstanding professors and terrible professors. The majority has nurtured and helped me along the way but there were a few that have affected me in a very negative manner. Also, the grading needs to be more uniform thoughout the faculty. Assessment of a student's capabilities should reflect more than just a grade.

The business connections made through professor and programs are outstanding. The amount of opportunity in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Area is outstanding! I was guaranteed an internship the summer of my junior year through the ACE business honors program and then I decided to sign with them in their Seattle office.

Santa Clara business program offers you a wide array of classes, and prepares you for anything your going to face in your related field.

I really enjoyed the emphasis placed on leadership in the management major, which is why I chose to declare it. I feel like the classes here have been filled with useful information and that even the most purely theoretical parts of management have been put into a practical context so it doesn't feel like wasted time.

While SCU receives top-notch employers, we are only beginning to see recruitment from the likes of Goldman Sachs and other big I-Banks. We are undervalued in this regard. I believe the average SCU business student can go toe to toe with someone from any more recognized school.

I truly believe that the business program at Santa Clara has offered me everything to prepare me for a job after graduation. I am very impressed with the business school's effect on my experience at SCU and I would recommend any student looking into the field of business to go to this incredible school. I really can't say enough great things about Santa Clara.

After meeting and networking with 50-75 Silicon Valley businesses over the course of my college career, employers always indicate that their No. 1 choice of recruits are Santa Clara students. Even though Berkeley and Stanford are in the same area, Santa Clara U. students have an extremely strong presence in the Silicon Valley. Part of this reason is attributed to the business school's ability to prepare us for the workforce. Every student works closely with professors and gives us the best one-on-one attention a student could ask for. If I were given the opportunity to attend any other business school, I would still have chosen Santa Clara because they give the best all-around education, particularly in business.

I've learned a lot from going to Santa Clara Univeristy. Through this program, I have had an excellent education and valuable learning experience made only possible by the excellent staff at this institution.

For accounting majors at SCU, the faculty in the department take care to make sure all students who want one get an internship over the summer. The Big Four accounting firms recruit heavily from us for interns, and KPMG hires many of our graduates. The program is there to help you and will in any way you need in any way possible.

The undergraduate business program provides a complete experience of the wide range aspects of the business industry.

The accounting department here is so unbelievably helpful with getting us internships and full-time jobs. The professors and the chairpersons really care about our futures, and I am so grateful for all the help they have provided me with getting my job. This accounting department is so motivated and understanding. SCU's classes are challenging and the professors help so much. I loved it here.

The Career Center at Santa Clara is probably the best part about it. They constantly have events to help prepare for interviews, write résumés, have résumés reviewed by real HR professionals, career fairs, on-campus interviewing, and more. The professors, particularly at the business school, always stress the importance of internships. Many professors post internship opportunities in their class. For example, Professor Buford Barr runs an e-mail list for his students where he posts internship opportunities. Since receiving advice from the Career Center, I get e-mails or calls from prospective employers frequently asking me to apply at their company.

One of the greatest benefits about coming to Santa Clara University are the small class sizes. I have often taken advantage of this fact by forming long-lasting relationships with my classmates since we regularly take the same classes for our major. Another benefit is the connection that I have with my professors as well. I would often run into them outside of class, and we would call each other by our first name and have lengthy conversations.

Santa Clara exceeded my expectations in so many ways. I had no idea who I was or where I wanted to go in my life, and I definitely found my vocation through the academic and social life at Santa Clara.

Santa Clara does not have job or internship placement programs. The student has to be proactive in searching for these opportunities. However, the university provides many resources to aid in the job-search process. There are three career fairs per year, an online job database, and On-Campus interviewing sessions every quarter for graduating seniors.
