STUDENT COMMENTS
I have been thrilled with the opportunities that have been provided to me. They have helped me to mature, experience amazing new things, and have been critical in guiding my future. I would choose this program again in a heartbeat!
The truly great thing about the faculty is their honest interest in their students. There is always an open invitation to their office, conversation in the elevator and hallways, even home phone numbers and addresses in case assistance is needed at odd hours. It makes you feel like you are truly part of a family.
As an accounting major, you cannot ask for better firms to come to on-campus career fairs. Consistently the Big Four as well as other top 10 accounting firms and regional firms attended.
The Sales Center at Ohio University is an amazing program that separates Ohio University's College of Business from many schools.
Our program is amazing in that it is very problem-based, giving students a lot of real-world projects and experience. Simply going through the program gives you business experience. One major part of this approach is what is called the business cluster. The cluster is a quarter-long, challenging course in which students not only have four classes to take but also three large group projects that are based on real businesses and their problems. With each of these projects students are expected to make a formal presentation of their findings/suggestions at the due date.
OU's CoB is very good at pushing teamwork and critical thinking to incorporate all aspects of business into one project in every class. OU also provides great opportunities for international business exposure in its Global Competitiveness Program.
The career connections and preparation at the Ohio University College of Business exist largely independently of the university's career services office.
There are weaknesses (some of the general entry-level business classes are boring or commonsensical) but the student body in general, especially business students, are super-involved in business extracurriculars and in other political and social ones. We are a super busy, activist campus of students that love to party but also want to be successful.
Ohio University is labeled as a party school, but the social side to business is as important as any other part. You can't get the deal if you make to other person feel awkward socially. Students at Ohio University work as hard as any other college students and are great at balancing social life with academics.
Ohio University's business program is highly underrated. The accounting department might have one of the best programs in the state of Ohio. We use a Business Activity Model for accounting, where the students work on one company all the way from year 1 to year 7. We do financial statements and audit and review the work of the "accountant" for the company.
I love the business school and wish I could stick around one more year to take some of the classes that are available, but unfortunately, time has run out!
My undergraduate business experience has been outstanding and well worth my time and money. I truly believe that you get out of it what you put into it; the students who are getting the best experience possible are those who are heavily involved, taking leadership roles, working hard in classes, etc. I feel that through my undergraduate business experience, I have adequately prepared myself to enter the workforce after college and beyond.
This school needs much more recognition. Ohio University's College of Business is absolutely amazing. Being a senior, I am confident in my abilities to enter into the professional world and achieve great success. You cannot place a value on everything that I have learned since my freshman year.
Wasn't quite as impressed with our business school until after I applied for my internship with Monitor. I was able to compete analytically and professionally with Ivy Leaguers. I came away from the experience feeling very grateful to my college!
I developed many skills, not only through the courses I took, but also through the extracurriculars offered by the College of Business. I strongly believe this is the top business school within the state of Ohio.
The Integrated Context Cluster sets Ohio University apart from other business programs. The experience and skills gained through the Cluster gives students a distinct advantage upon entering the workforce.
The Sales Center program is something that is available through O.U.'s business program. This is a very unique opportunity to be able to take part in that not all schools offer. This is a very valuable experience to learn in, network through, and broaden the normal "classroom" experiences. Also, O.U.'s cluster program is a unique approach to learning in classrooms and putting a more realistic work experience into a classroom.
I joined a professional business fraternity as a sophomore, and I used this organization to help network and gain jobs more so than I did the recruiting services at OU. I would say that we have an excellent variety of organizations from which to chose in the college of business that I believe help students very much with job-hunting, networking, résumé, and interviewing skills, and overall preparedness for the business world.
After looking at several prestigious business schools, I am confident that the undergraduate business education rivals that of any other program in the nation. Ohio University does not get a lot of national recognition because of a weaker graduate program. However, the resources and opportunities provided to the undergraduate business student are the best in the country.
I have a wonderful mentor who is an alum of the College of Business at Ohio University, and has really helped shape my leadership and academic experience. I don't think I would have had this opportunity at another school.
