STUDENT COMMENTS

Career services is amazing. I am a below-average student but I got around 25 on-campus interview opportunities with a good deal of second/final rounds. Third year is a killer. Many nights were spent in libraries with my teammates, together with my laptop, toothbrush, and and alarm clock.

The McIntire School and its professors are really interested in the welfare of their students. I have never encountered anyone affiliated with the Commerce school who was not willing to go out of their way to help another, and that speaks volumes to me regarding what this school is about beyond business.

Biggest improvement would be a more integrated finance and financial economics program as well as quantitative analysis/calculus.

The professors all practice an open-door policy when it comes to meeting with students. Each and every professor serves as a mentor to the students by being extremely approachable and helpful.

The sense of community in the commerce school has made this experience unbelievably valuable to me. I've met some of my closest friends through my classes.

The Commerce Career Center at McIntire is one of the best-run organizations I have ever had to work with. I can not say enough good things about them. Just having access to them (and the recruiters they bring to the school) is worth the tuition price.

The Integrated Core Experience (ICE) for third years is an unbelievable system. The combination of outstanding faculty, driven students, and new facilities should make McIntire the premier undergrad business school in the nation.

The commitment and devotion of the professors at McIntire is beyond anything I've ever seen or heard of. They will do whatever it takes to make sure the students understand the course material.

The connections with employers and the depth of corporate relationships with business leaders and alumni at the McIntire School is phenomenal. This is probably the program's biggest strength, as it is one of the forces that allows McIntire to maintain such an outstanding academic reputation. The school makes a concerted effort to bring a diverse array of employers to fourth-year students, allowing them to find careers that fit their personalities and personal goals. I now have excellent future prospects in the business world and am deeply grateful for the opportunity to attend this school.

The McIntire School of Commerce here at the University of Virginia is unique. While it exists as only a two-year program, the experience (professors, students, classes, etc.) has been like nothing I have ever been a part of. The Comm School incorporates a much smaller, competitive atmosphere into a large, public university, and it capitalizes on the benefits of both. The program has been outstanding in preparing me for work outside of the classroom and has worked hard to place me with the right opportunities for future employment.

This is a great program, that offers the perfect balance between hard school work and ambitious career services, but also maintains a fun atmosphere.

I have been very pleased by the willingness of the faculty to listen to and address concerns and questions that I and others have raised about the program and individual courses. They are quite candid about the things that are not working perfectly. Rather than taking a defensive position, they appreciate that the point was raised and work to assure students that a plan is in place to address the concern or misunderstanding.

I have been very pleased by the responses of several recruiters stating that the most important reason they come to McIntire and UVA is the Honor system and the ethical integrity of the students. One recruiter from Vanguard told me that his company does not have to worry about whether or not UVA students will do the right thing. They know to do the right thing and they know what the right thing is. I do not believe that the student body or the school could earn any higher praise than that.

I’ve come to be very impressed with all of my peers, and I’m looking forward to staying in touch with many of them. The program’s relentless emphasis on teambuilding and teamwork works because we have so many great people here. All of us work hard, and then play hard together. The McIntire community is tight-knit and enjoys a strong esprit de corps. Everyone displays a high level of respect for each person’s individual choices, talents, and contributions. For me, it has been a great place to learn, grow as a person, and prepare for my career and future.

Teachers assign too much work and expect a lot, but it has prepared me for a career in investment banking.

African Americans are underrepresented. Classes and group work is very rigorous in comparison to classes outside the curriculum. McIntire students are stereotyped as Type-A, hyperactive workaholics that sacrifice their social lives and college life for the betterment of themselves and their future.

Alumni from McIntire are always happy to help current McIntire students, as there is a strong sense of school loyalty. I also feel extremely well-prepared for my career in investment banking. I have learned great communication skills and teamwork skills in addition to learning a great deal about financial concepts. I believe McIntire is the best program to prepare you for a career in the business world.

Demanding course work, engaging classrooms and respected, welcoming faculty comprise the McIntire experience.

The Commerce Career Services office really deserves special recognition in this category. During recruiting season I was in contact with Sarah Isham (director) at least once a week. She always responded to me right away with more than helpful information. From learning how to interact with employers at the career fair to being guided on how to write a letter of offer decline, she was there at every step of the way.
