STUDENT COMMENTS
It has been an incredible experience at Clarkson. I have gained one of the most amazing networks of people, a network that includes alumni, advisers, professors, fellow classmates, and companies.
The school has been great, what makes Clarkson is the people, the staff, faculty, and students all want everyone to do well.
This survey does not give justice to the experiences that I have gained from my time at Clarkson. As an undergraduate I have made a number of contacts throughout the university that have provided me an abundance of resources. Professors seem to be always available to speak with, and if not, they create time to accommodate you. I have had genuine conversations with the President of the University on a number of occasions, and each student has the ability to meet with the Dean of Business within a timely manner. The social contacts and friendship fostered at Clarkson will surely endure for years to come, and I look forward to the day when I will be able to start a business venture with a number of these individuals.
Great career center counseling department goes beyond the call to prepare students for job/internship opportunities.
At Clarkson, international students feel lonely sometimes, but that situation forced international students to become optimistic and hard-working, however lacking in social life they were.
The business program at Clarkson has been outstanding. It is constantly improving, and in the last 3+ years I have been here I have seen a constant effort to make improvements. I feel that I have been prepared for a career in a unique and far superior way to business students I know from other universities. I truly believe that Clarkson's business school puts out some of the best business graduates in the country.
I feel that I have been given every opportunity to excel, not only in the university's environment, but also in the real world. When I was working at a company for the past two summers, I was able to come back to school and apply all of my classes more easily. It helped create a bigger picture and understanding of the business world and see that what I was learning can actually be applied. Clarkson really encouranges hands-on learning, teamwork, conflict resolution, responsibility, and adaptability. They make you feel as if you are part of a smaller group, but with a larger purpose and I respect and appreciate that effort.
The IE&M program (interdisciplinary engineering and managment) is an industry-designed major that combines engineering and management skills. I take a good mix of engineering and business/management classes. This makes me a bridge between the business world and the engineering world. I feel this is a good place to be because businesspeople often don't understand engineering, and engineers don't understand business.
As far as job-seeking goes, my department adviser and the career center were great resources. My adviser is the "networking guru," as many of the students say. Three of the four offers that I received can be credited to his networking and recruiting efforts. There were several second-round interviews that I had to turn down. As an E&M student competing for sales and product management jobs against mechanical engineers, I was well-prepared and well-received.
The business program has formed strategic partnerships with dominant corporations such as GE, IBM, Accenture, Raytheon, Energizer, Goodyear, Target, and others. They are particularly good at obtaining feedback from these companies to find out what skill sets are needed in industry. Then the School of Business uses this information to shape the curriculum.
While the School of Business at Clarkson University is not known for its strategic management focus, its reputation does reflect the technical needs of most industries. The School of Business has adapted to meet the changing landscape of how business is conducted, and it is sending out graduates who are industr- tested, and technology-focused.
The iE&M major at Clarkson University is great. In today's market, it is the most practical degree.
After spending some time in the business field I am very impressed with the education and preparation that I received from Clarkson University, as well as with the experience, network, and recognition that I have earned from there.
The iE&M program does an outstanding job of preparing you for the real world. One example: Starting fall semester of freshman year, we are required to go to career fair and get three business cards, autographed by the recruiter, which forces us to get out there and talk to companies. I have been going back ever since and now in my senior year I am very familiar with the companies that come on campus and have developed a relationship with the ones I am most interested in. The advising for this program is top-notch.
I couldn't be happier with the experience I have had at Clarkson University. Through learning by doing I feel that much more ahead of the game than any other college student.
I am a transfer student at Clarkson University. I have repeatedly commented to my colleagues that I have learned more at Clarkson in one semester than I did in two years in my previous business program (which I will not name). It has been a very rewarding experience, and I feel more prepared for my career than I ever expected.
Overall Clarkson's hands-on learning technique is what sets it apart from other institutions. As students, we feel that we are prepared for every challenge that is set in front of us.
Clarkson was the best experience of my life. It changed me as a person. I believe I will be on a great carrier path in an occupation i enjoy because of Clarkson.
The department that advises me has gone above and beyond my expectations. I receive weekly e-mails describing job opportunities, minutes from meetings, activities of interest for our major, and more. They have been truly amazing in their efforts to help me find a job for when I graduate in May.
