STUDENT COMMENTS
Bryant University has far exceeded my expectations as far as an academic standpoint, most of which has to do with President Machtley, whom I feel should be honored numerous times over.
I feel that the academic advising office could use improvement. However, the career services department is spectacular in helping as long as you attend the information sessions that they hold and take advantage of all of the opportunities that they have.
The school's career services does not help seniors who want to pursue careers outside New England. They don't help students who want to pursue internships in states besides New England. The program is trying to improve, but they need to realize not everybody who attends Bryant want to stay in the New England area. Students often have to push themselves to search for job/internships.
I feel Bryant makes a huge effort to find their graduating students jobs upon graduation. They offer on campus interviews with a variety of large corporate firms. Also, they have workshops, mock interviews, and other sessions to really prepare the student for success once graduating.
As a freshman I thought I was at an amazing school. I slowly learned that this was not the case. The professors for the most case have no real-world experience and know nothing about what they are teaching. I feel like my school let me down, and I am not prepared for the real world, and this is going to hurt me a great deal.
I feel like the professors that I was able to develop relationships with were incredibly helpful when it came to looking for an internship/job because they were able to offer helpful advice when it was needed and provide opportunities that I may not have otherwise known about. This was an experience that many of my fellow classmates also came across.
Bryant has been the best thing that's ever happened to me. I can't begin to express how thrilled I am with the programs, professors, and facilities. All of my classes are challenging and rewarding far beyond anything I ever dared to imagine. I graduate in May, 2007, and I'm confident that I'll have all the skills necessary to begin a successful career in the corporate technology and business industries.
The new facility for career planning is very focused on finance and accounting careers. As a marketing student I found them to be a wasted effort for me. They force you to attend meetings to be able to use the resources and end up just making you not want to go there because you know since you missed one of the orientations they will talk down to you. It is interesting because they feel they are the most important part of the campus. If I make it big I am going to pay an astronomical amount of money to have my firm's name on their office.
By engaging myself into extracurricular activities I was able to learn skills that I wouldn't have been able to in the classroom. By combining what I've learned in class with what I've learned out of class, through student activities, I feel very confident that Bryant University has taught me the skills necessary to compete and succeed after graduation.
I am a senior here at Bryant, and I couldn't have asked for a better college experience. At Bryant I got everything I needed: academics and social. I can truly say that Bryant has been a second home to me, and I will miss it a great deal once I graduate!
I feel that Bryant University has put me in a position to succeed after graduation. I have already been offered a job that pays much more than most entry-level management positions. Bryant has taught me both the basics of business and the not-so-basics. Compared to my friends that received business degrees from other colleges, I would say my degree is more valuable.
The career services program at Bryant is outstanding and is able to give individual focus to students to maximize their job search.
I had the opportunity to participate in Bryant University's Archway Investment Fund, where selected students run a real $350,000 portfolio by analyzing, presenting, and brainstorming on stocks. This hands-on experience not only put me above the competition but also gave me the knowledge that most two-year postgraduate employees do not possess.
As a student that receives no financial aid and does not come from an overly wealthy background, seeing some of the things that money gets pumped into around here can be astonishing. The grounds are amazing, and all things visible to a prospective student on a tour, but the things that matter to current students get pushed to the side. There are areas that need severe improvement. These are academic advising, residence life, and student affairs. Academic advising has only one or two qualified individuals who actually even know what they are doing. I have been given the wrong information numerous times and do not go back for academic advice. I feel that doing this on my own is more worthwhile. The school does not have a strong community feel, and the main focus of the university is attracting new students instead of satisfying the current ones.
Because of the small size of the school there is always someone willing and able to help. Professors are required to have office hours and many even give you their home phone numbers on the first day of class. There are no TAs so the quality of teaching is excellent. A two-semester class is offered where students run a school-sponsored fund with $370,000. Also Fidelity sponsors a Securities Brokerage class to take the Series 7. In addition, there is a mock trading room with Reuters and Bloomberg terminals.
Technology on campus is outstanding. All students are given IBM laptops that are replaced after sophomore year. The entire campus is wireless, including the dorm rooms, which have VOIP phones with numerous features.
At my time at Bryant I found that it is more like a business than a business school. meaning they only care about one thing and that's profit. They continue to raise tuition and cut financial aid, and this is wrong considering the high costs of school today. They only seem to care about their shareholders and don't realize that students should come first because without us then you wouldn't have a school.
Bryant was my first choice in colleges, and I am extremely happy with my experience here. The school was far too expensive for my liking but it is worth every penny. I took a chance to come here, and I couldn't be happier. They are willing to work with you financially to make sure you are able to get the education you want. What president will take your letter to the board of trustees to ask permission to give you more scholarship money? President Machtley did, and that's why I came here.
The availability of the faculty is second to none. Professors are willing to review assignments, take a look papers, and provide useful feedback and help with class material often. The faculty makes themselves very available.
Bryant should be ranked in the top 50 undergraduate business schools this year. I have had an amazing well rounded college experience here. Bryant allowed me to earn a position in General Electric's famous Financial Management Program after an internship last summer. I was able to use the skills I gained at Bryant to beat out many other interns from big-name schools for a full-time position.
