STUDENT COMMENTS

It was very fruitful and inspirational. I feel ready to take the real world challenge.

Kogod has definitely improved in all aspects of the business program and continues to strive to reach greater goals each year.

The teachers have been the best resource on campus. Our school has struggled, in my opinion, with administrative bureaucracy but I feel that is normal at any private university. My qualm is not with the Kogod program but with administrative, parking tickets, housing issues. None of these problems make me regret being here. I am so glad I chose American University and appreciate the balance that one can find and have been extremely impressed with what it has done for me and offered me.

Better than I thought it would be.

I believe the business school works very hard to improve its repuation and overall quality for the students, but is hindered by the university as a whole due to misplaced funding, lack of organization, and bad press.

The faculty has been great and personable in the business school. They are always looking for ways to promote our school on campus and are very energetic about it.

The case competition has been an integral part of my experience here. Additionally, the number of international students on campus has broadened my cultural horizons and has given me the opportunity to address global issues in a new way. I think that it was very difficult to find a job on Wall Street because we are not recruited here. However, I feel that for every interview I was more than prepared.

The business clubs and groups (including the business fraternity) on campus are very good. They are very instrumental in helping their members make business connections to secure internships, even more helpful than the university career center.

I really enjoyed the adjunct professors who have real-world experience in their respective field and can bring those experiences to class. Instead of focusing on outdated books or strictly theory, they can bring in practical uses and true challenges they face in the field. They have been the most influential people I've met during my college experience. They are inspiring to me to work in business and to do some of the great things they've done and continue to do in their careers. Their energy and dedication to their job and also to teaching is very inspiring.

The location and program are excellent in preparing you for job-seeking after college. I am entertaining two job offers in November for positions post-graduation in May, and I was able to beat out candidates from schools such as UPenn, Georgetown, and George Washington, thanks to my Kogod education and internship experiences. I got all of my internships through business-school events or the career services office.

In terms of career and internship advising, the internship adviser with the career center was not particularly helpful. However, the career adviser Felicia Parks was extremely helpful and informative.

I do think that the career center and the advising team could have targeted minorities more (and their special needs). Maybe they could have spotlighted minorities in the day school more and invited us to team together, which could have made the program more approachable in general.

Kogod prepares students for real world experience. Internships are encouraged starting in freshman year and expected by sophomore year. Networking is a skill that is emphasized both by the career center as well as professors. There are also a number of clubs and activities that relate to business that give students the opportunity to be leaders outside of the classroom.

My Kogod experience has been invaluable, and I have or will be interviewing with top firms such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wachovia, Credit Suisse, and Goldman Sachs because of it. I will be choosing from several offers this fall, and I feel uniquely prepared to perform in whatever role I take following graduation.

The Kogod Business school at American University not only provides quality classroom learning with text and recent events, but takes advantage of the school's location. D.C. is a place full of opportunity, and Kogod encourages students to take advantage of this experience. There are numerous opportunities and internships around our school that give us the ability to combine our classroom learning with real-world experience.

Kogod does an incredible job connecting with its students. My experience in Kogod has been great, and I feel as if I am truly prepared for the real world to come next spring. My professors have been outstanding. Kogod does a very good job in obtaining professors with experience in top corporations and/or that have been executives. All of my professors have so much real-life experience to bring to the classroom and really teach how all of the skills we are learning will serve us later in life.

There needs to be greater opportunity to meet and network with alumni and other area universities. Since there are no major athletic programs, huge bowl games and athletics are not the draw to have generations of AU alumni attend or be involved in an event. There needs to be a large social event around an exciting AU activity. But without a major sports program I am not sure what that event would be. Still, AU needs something to pull its generations of students together to increase AU pride and greater networking opportunities.

I feel that my classes have been a bit too easy and sometimes the professors seemed a bit underqualified, although they probably were qualified and were just not good teachers. I feel that the business program is always sending job opportunities to students, yet the majority of these seem to be for finance students. I think that they make a wide number of options available for you to participate in regarding the business community, although, as I said most are finance-related. The career center and business advisers, however, have been a major highlight and make themselves available quite often and are very helpful.

I've had a wonderful experience at AU the past few years! You can get so much out of it if you put the effort in. Teachers and advisers are really there for you and so many of them have wonderful connections with the business world and are willing to help you gain that edge.

Kogod is a great school, bottom line. I have had a great experience here, got my dream job before graduating, and have had wonderful internship opportunities presented to me because I am at this school. Kogod is a business school that will have a major impact on business schools around the world without a doubt. Most of my professors are practicing what they preach in the real world and bring real deal experience to class.
