What special programs are available to business students?
K-LAB (Kogod Leadership and Applied Business) includes: Kogod Road Scholars alternative spring break study tour (corporate site visits); Washington Initiative service learning course; 1955 Club (leadership development organization made of program ambassadors and peer mentors); Annual Case Competition; Clubs and Organizations (listed below). First year programming includes the Kogod Kick Off (academic orientation/welcome) and FAT Tuesday - First Year Advanced Training and Registration.


Work study or co-op opportunities Yes
Work study and co-op opportunities are available through the Internship Program. Academic credit can be earned after completing 12 credits in business and the core 300-level course in that discipline. All internships are required to be at least 12 weeks in length and up to 3 credits can be earned for the internship. Not-for-credit internships may be completed at any time during the college career.
Study abroad opportunities Yes
Students may study abroad in over 100 locations worldwide through AU Abroad (http://auabroad.american.edu/). Of these options, 15 offer focused studies in business. The Kogod School of Business also maintains a unique partnership with the Euro American Institute of Technology (EAI Tech) in Sophia-Antipolis, France. Credits earned at EAI Tech can be applied toward Kogod business core and/or specialization requirements.
Volunteer and community service opportunities Yes
Washington Initiative: variable-credit service learning course that provides the opportunity to apply business knowledge and skills in a non-profit setting. Students serve as consultants to local charitable and non-profit organizations which have included Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund, IRS Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program, D.C. Central Kitchen and Facilitation Leadership in Youth. Service opportunities also available through AU's campus wide community service office.
Business clubs and extracurricular activities Yes
Kogod students may be involved in a number of clubs and organizations including the Undergraduate Business Association, Undergraduate Accounting Club, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, American Marketing Association, Kogod Finance Group and Hispanic Business Association. The UBA supports all business students through inclusive events and the promotion of collaborative programming by student organizations.
