ADDITIONAL SCHOOL COMMENTS
English Language Examinations
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required of international applicants whose native language is not English. The GSB's TOEFL test code is 1832-02.
An international applicant, however, is exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement if he/she has earned an undergraduate degree or post-graduate degree from an institution in which English is the language of instruction, or if an applicant has at least two years of full-time work experience in the United States. An applicant is also eligible if he/she is a citizen or permanent resident of a country where English is an official language. Applicants should note the exemption where indicated in the application.
Scores
The minimum TOEFL score required for admission depends on whether applicants take the computerized test or paper exam, which are scored differently. On the computerized exam, applicants must score a minimum total score of at least 250. For the paper-based version, the minimum total score is 600. The minimum IELTS score required for admission is an overall score of 7. Applicants who score below these minimums cannot be considered for admission and should retake the test before submitting an application.
TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years. Your score will be considered expired if the test was taken more than two years prior to submission of your application. If your score has expired, you must retake the examination and submit the official scores before the application deadline.
