CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Yale is an excellent school that provides all the benefits of an MBA in a small, intimate setting. The quality and accessibility of the faculty is outstanding. One of the major reasons why I chose Yale was the size of the class. In an MBA, you learn a lot from your classmantes, and the size of Yale makes it a lot easier to get to know and learn from your colleagues. Also, there is a lot more interaction between students and faculty.--Finance
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] For nonprofit and public policy management, Yale is undoubtedly the best place in the world to be.--Nonprofit
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I learned a tremendous amount about business, and I made a very close network with a lot of diverse kinds of students. The Yale MBA is different than the others in that we have such a diverse group of students with different backgrounds. I'm sure that no matter what I do in the future, I'm likely to have a friend from SOM in that field.--Finance
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] There's a unique and special environment at Yale SOM, one that encourages collaboration and integrity while expecting excellence at all levels. Everyone I know and work with agree that these are all factors they would like to nurture within themselves, and as such will appreciate and evolve from the culture of SOM.--Not Available
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] I had not worked as a consultant before and my teammates helped train me how to think in this realm.--Finance
I worked with a small team of students to assess a local nonprofit elderly care center that was exploring its financial options. It was not only a great opportunity to try my hand at consulting, but also introduced me to many of the financial concepts that I would learn about during my program. Finally, it was rewarding to help a nonprofit with one of its true business needs.--Finance
I participated in a consulting project for a healthcare-management course. The project was a major part of the class work and served as a launching point for discussion of numerous topics germane to management in the healthcare sector.--Not Available
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] The China study trip was an amazing experience. In 12 days, I visited four cities and discussed strategy with CEOs from 22 large companies across six industries in China.--Not Available
I did a consulting project for the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. The average age of its audience is 67 and the symphony is having problems attracting new, younger, audience members. I worked on an analysis of the situation, and then put together a targeted, integrated, marketing campaign for them to deploy to attract people in their 20s and 30s. We did a survey of how young people feel about high-culture activities, how they spend their free time, and what would entice them to see a symphony. Based on our analysis of the results, we crafted the campaign. It was great to be able to put all of the tools learned through marketing, statisitics, e-commerce strategy, economics, and e-marketing together in one project.--Finance
Yale SOM really surprised me. I had a great experience, learned a ton, got a great job, and would recommend this program to anyone. The Yale experience is a well rounded one, and that helps people really be able to consider many different options upon graduation. I also think Yale SOM does an amazing job in teaching responsible business. Being successful in business is not just about making money, but more importantly about improving the community and society around you.--Finance
Classmates shared ideas freely when working with each other and professors were available for interaction, producing an ideal learning environment at SOM. With an upbeat and loose atmosphere, SOM was an excellent experience!--Finance
I believe my Yale experience will prepare me for a successful long-term career, not just my first job after school. The classes and campus environment were intellectually stimulating. Students had great access to all of Yale's schools, prominent business speakers, and outstanding faculty. I loved the small class size and knowing everyone at my school; it greatly contributed to class spirit.--Nonprofit
The Yale School of Management far exceeded my expectations of a graduate business education. The collaborative, collegial environment enhanced my education tremendously. The uniqueness of the Yale program, rooted in its origins as a school of public and private management, means that it attracts a certain type of student who is interested in more than just receiving a diploma and a higher-paying job. The students are generally interested in learning, and this creates a remarkably lively, rigorous academic environment.--Marketing
While I don't believe any two-year experience could ever be perfect, Yale was the best experience I have ever had to date. I personally devalue the classroom instruction component of business school -- that's not why I was there. I was there to leverage the classroom environment to meet and foster meaningful relationships with intelligent, performance-driven, and hungry people like myself who demand a compatible level of risk and reward out of life. We found each other and we broke bread together, worked out together, and travelled to foreign lands. We cried, laughed, argued, tolerated, jeered, and cheered on one another. I made business and personal relationships that were built to last. That's the value of an MBA experience at Yale.--Marketing
