CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
I would definitely recommend UW-Madison's MBA program to prospective students who have a firm idea of the career path they would like to pursue after graduation. With the career specialization tracks that have been implemented, if a student is unsure about future career plans, then that student will not thrive within the framework of the new MBA curriculum.--Not Available
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] It is a program on the rise. I would expect that the experiences of future students will only be better because of the direction that the program is taking.--Finance
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] There are unique factors that make the MBA experience at UW-Madison different from other B-schools. Besides the outstanding faculty members and excellent education, the UW-Madison MBA experience provides the following: Focused areas of expertise, such as the ACFIN program, very approachable and supportive faculty, staff, and administrators, and competitive but cooperative student body. These are the things that make UW-Madison different from most other business schools.--Human Resources
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] This school has excellent faculty and students. Programs are well designed, and there is a good balance of team work projects, lectures, and cases. Students are cooperative rather than competitive. Although professors do not put on the pressure, students study hard spontaniously, not for getting a good GPA but for themselves. I truly was really satisfied with this school. The cooperative atmosphere helped me a lot to study here in the United States and therefore, I would recommend this school to my friends in Japan.--Marketing
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The University of Wisconsin has a number of different centers for specialization. I specialized in supply chain management at the Grainger Center for Supply Chain Management. The faculty was excellent, the classes vastly exceeded my expectation, my peers in the Grainger Center were top notch, funding opportunities were tremendous, and I loved the program for the education I received and the lifelong friendships I established.--Operations
I participated in several applied consulting projects during my educational experience. Real experience is always better than simulation.--Entrepreneurship
Through the Applied Corporate Finance Program, I've done consulting projects for Kraft, John Deere, and two other local companies. The wonderful integration of classroom concepts and business reality made this the best part of my MBA experience.--Finance
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] The projects really helped to reinforce the course topics and provide a more solid foundation in the subject matter.--Marketing
I worked for two entrepreneurs located in Madison, Winconsin. One is for marketing research and another for entrepreneur management. Both projects gave me a chance to analyze the firms' standing point from a broad perspective. Also, both companies had "typical" problems in operation, finanancial management, and marketing as taught in classes. We applied the frameworks we have been taught for our recommendation. Throughout the projects, I was able to learn how to implement the frameworks in the real world.--Marketing
I did four consulting projects for companies ranging from a diversified global company to a global investment bank. I had the opportunity to interact with top-level executives and gain hands-on experience on the topics that I learned in class. The experiences differentiated me from all others in my job search.--Finance
The academic model at the University of Wisconsin - Madison is top notch. General management skills are taught in the first year. The second year is comprised of electives directly related to a chosen career path. The risk management and insurance faculty are the tops in their field. I will be ready to hit the ground running in my new role.--Not Available
I cannot emphasize strongly enough that despite the mediocre quality of the general MBA program at Wisconsin, the schools key strength lies in its niche programs. The Grainger Center for Supply Chain Management is outstanding, and I would highly recommend it.--Operations
I did consulting projects for local companies through two classes: Market Research and Entrepreneurship. I found it heartening to see how our lessons were directly applicable to the real world. It developed crucial teamwork skills which I considered to be of great value.--Nonprofit
