CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
There is more to an MBA than simply the education. Anyone can learn about business from reading books. Success is in large part influenced by the network of relationships, both public and private, that provide the atmosphere necessary to create and finance new ideas. Wharton is full of professors and colleagues that have the necessary positive attitude and commitment necessary to cultivate the environment of success.--Consulting
The program is very diverse, as is the student body. With a school of this size and caliber, I believe these two are a powerful combination for an MBA program. The teaching is excellent, and the quality of students here surpassed my expectations. Philadelphia is the perfect city to spend two years, especially if you plan on staying on the East Coast and can keep in touch with classmates.--Investment Banking
Wharton has provided an excellent ground for learning, improving professional skills, and networking. The school is open to students and adjusts to the changing environment. The administration and faculty are devoted to the students and perform efficiently and successfuly to provide a great experience. Beyond all that, the opportunity for involvement in every aspect of the school is phenomenal.--Consulting
The Wharton program does not emphasize the development of the so-called soft skills (leadership and general management). Also, I am deeply dissatisfied with the school's assistance (or the lack of assistance) in recruiting for nontraditional MBA jobs, especially those not in the Philidelphia/New York area.--Finance
Wharton's students are the most fun, international, helpful, and interesting that I can imagine. It is really the students who make the difference. Anyone who ever watched the Wharton Follies or International Cultural Show, will quickly recognize the tremendous talent that makes Wharton unique.--Not Available
Wharton allowed me to interview with companies that would never have looked at me before. That reason alone made the MBA worth it.--Not Available
The Wharton School is without doubt the most represented and most powerful MBA brand name on Wall Street. For those pursuing finance/banking/private equity careers, this is unquestonably the institution that will be ale to provide a strong mix of access to the traditional places you want to work, as well as provide you with strong technical and analtyical skills you need to succeed in those places. It will also provide you with a good internal network at many firms.--Investment Banking
Wharton gives you so many options after school, and the opportunity to completely reinvent yourself. I know a school teacher who is going to McKinsey.--Finance
Someone interested in healthcare management (my major) will find a Wharton MBA invaluable to his career. In working with other MBAs without a healthcare emphasis, I realize I have a significant advantage. My responsibilities in my hospital (and in the military) are simply greater than my counterparts with MBAs from other schools. I find myself educating them (and my superiors) about hospital operations, healthcare marketing, e-health, legal aspects of healthcare, and other issues that are not covered by a general MBA curriculum.--Healthcare Management
Wharton is a very cooperative school with high ethical values. It completely changed my view of how to do business in an ethical and cooperative way. Moreover, the technical skills I have acquired vastly exceed my already high expectations.--Consulting
Wharton's Global Consulting Practicum was probably the most valuable class I have taken so far at school. I was on a 10-person international team of students from Wharton and the Recanati School/Tel Aviv University, consulting an international consumer-products company looking to enter the U.S. market with a completely innovative product. It was an amazing opportunity to impact the company's senior executives and learn about cross-cultural teamwork and leadership.--Marketing
I did an international consulting project for a company in Chile. The project enabled me to synthesize and integrate everything that I was learning, literally on the fly! It was overwhelming at times, but in the end, I got it. I understood why I needed to watch transfer pricing, ensure relationships with key distributors, and assess product-positioning simultaneously. It was unbelievable. I highly recommend participating in a consulting project during school. Wharton made a huge difference with this opportunity. This program has been in existence for 25 years and has established relationships internationally and domestically. It was well run and actually gave me the chance to present our findings to the CEO of the company.--Consulting
Although I came to Wharton mainly for its finance expertise, I was extremely surprised by the school's strengths in other fields such as marketing and operations management. As a finance major, I am sure that I chose the best school. The finance classes are outstanding. We leave the school ready to perform.--Finance
While the formal educational aspects at Wharton are quite good, the best part of the experience is the people. I have learned more outside of class, from my classmates, than in any classroom. The school does an outstanding job of attracting world-class students, from a wide array of fields, who do not take themselves too seriously. I thought Wharton students would be aggressive, arrogant, obnoxious. With few exceptions, they are not.--Investment Banking
As a large school, Wharton has the resources to provide many amazing opportunities to pursue career, academic, and social interests that many other schools can not. After two years at Wharton, my primary issues are 1.) that a large number of professors are not very good teachers but are good researchers, so they are not dismissed, and 2.) the administration and faculty often project arrogance because they are at Wharton. I would like to see more humility from the school. That said, the experience here is phenomenal.--Not Available
What makes Wharton so special is not one particular thing, but a pattern of greatness across the board. If you have been looking forward to business school for a long time, this is simply as good as it gets. As a Wharton student, you will be immersed in management, marketing, and finance right away with the most imaginative thoughtful leaders out there. You will be almost assured that each of the faculty wrote the textbook you will be using. The faculty will be friendly and responsive. They will invite you to their home for a cocktail party, or to their country club to play golf. It will be a nearly seamless environment. The new Huntsman building is, quite simply astounding -- superb classrooms that are fully wired and marvelous study rooms. The students are all first-rate, but you won't be competing with them. They will not be sitting next to you to beat you on any grade curve. They will be there to share a different perspective, to engage in intellectual discussion, and to drink with you on Tuesday Pub night. This place is in many ways the Disneyland of the business world, where anything you want to do, you can do. There are many great business schools but if you think of business school as something that ought to be the best two years of your life, this is the place.--Venture Capital/Private Equity
I participated in the Global Consulting Practicum. This project enabled me to work on the U.S. market entry strategy for a Chilean firm and visit Chile for the first time. Additionally, I got to know my teammates on the U.S. and Chilean side very well. Many are now great friends. It was one of the best experiences at Wharton and the most interesting of my career.--Consulting
With a team of classmates, I worked on merchandising strategy for the new Philadelphia Soul professional Arena-league football team. It was fantastically integrative -- requiring real-world quantitative and qualitative market research, number-crunching, and presentation preparation.--Marketing
I think Wharton is a truly remarkable school that is contantly evolving. The school has the right mix -- great faculty, great students, and other great resources. These have been among the best two years of my life both academically and professionally.--Consulting
Getting an MBA from Wharton was definitely the best decision I've ever made. I got the job I wanted, made a ton of friends, and most importantly, grew as a person.--Consulting
