CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The MBA Program was a very good educational experience. The case study method was interactive and helped me develop a better analytical base and ability to think insightfully. The weaknesses are mainly around the support staff and administration, which also accounts for our tuition. Ivey needs to recognize that it needs to hire good people who believe in putting 110% effort into the school and helping its students.--Investment Banking

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Ivey MBA is an international-oriented program. Diversified student body, wide coverage of international business topics, knowlegable faculty are among the shining features of Ivey. Furthermove, Ivey does a great job in Career Management Services for MBA grads. From on-campus free coaching and editing services to overseas CM offices, MBA candidates/grads receive more opportunities than those in other major Canadian B-schools.--Not Available

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I felt that Ivey provided me with all the tools necessary to become successful. Who wouldn't urge their friends to pursue the same?--Consulting

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I believe that Ivey provides an excellent interactive curriculum that forces students to make decisions and defend those decisions within a challenging environment of talented peers. This most accurately simulates a real business environment.--Not Available

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Ivey provided the perfect balance of self-taught business theory and application through the case method. This educational experience is unmatched in Canada. Furthermore, the pace (although excrutiatingly intense) prepared me for the hours and commitment that will now be required in my post-education employement. Finally, the camraderie and network that I experienced and will continue to experience is invaluable, and I believe would be difficult to find elsewhere.--Consulting

Our team worked on a communications plan for an SUV manufacturer just before the launch of a new model. For a technical/operations person like myself, this project showed me another side of business: The communications/organizational behavior side that proved equally, if not more, important to the company's success. We saw how communications impacted the company's bottom line.--Finance

We worked with a small company in the service industry, and this was a very different atmosphere than we had encountered in many of our cases. We felt that we could provide value to the CEO who really was managing the company by himself.--Investment Banking

Our consulting project was with Medecins Sans Frontieres -- Doctors Without Borders -- Canada. We used a lot of material from our Management Controls Systems class to help establish a strategy for the organization. Non-profit organizations are being scrutinized as carefully as their for-profit counterparts for transparency and accountability. We are happy to report that the client accepted our recommendations with great thanks and are currently implementing our recommendations.--Marketing

[Did consulting project enhance learning?] It gave me a broader understanding of the role of information technology in enhancing operations at a financial asset management firm.--Information Technology

My team and I were fortunate to have worked with some key executives in a 20,000-person agribusiness to help them generate new ways to innovate in an otherwise stagnant and declining market. We were given high-level access and the opportunity to present our findings during a one-week trip to Europe, one of the highlights of my MBA experience.--Consulting

I think the case method used at Ivey and HBS gives graduates a clear edge in the business world. With lectures and assignments, you memorize facts and formulas, but these eventually fade. With the case method, you develop a general, structured approach to treat any problem. You learn how to think, not just what to think. In that respect, I found that the difference between a case-method MBA and a non-case-method MBA is similar to the difference between an engineering degree and a pure science degree. Case-method MBAs and engineers are both innovative problem solvers, who can be thrown into deep water and not just survive but excel.--Finance

I knew the value of my MBA throughout the program, but it really became clear when I had the opportunity, with three other Ivey students, to compete in and win an international case competition in Barcelona, Spain against some of the top business schools in the world (MIT-Sloan, Yale, Columbia, INSEAD, IESE, Rotterdam, London Business School, Bocconi). The top-notch MBA preparation, from working as a team under tight timelines, to building a strong strategy and presenting it with confidence, really showed through in a competitive venue.--Marketing

Ivey is a life-changing journey. The world that I live in looks different and my expectations have changed. I worked hard and learned as much (or even more) from my teams and classmates as I did from the professors. I made the right decision in Ivey.--Information Technology

[Did consulting project enhance learning?] Ivey Client Field Project helped me grasp every step of making a thorough and professional industry analysis. The project is very helpful.--Not Available

While the MBA was not what I expected, it has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. The most notable part is the quality of people I met and the experiences outside of the class where much of my learning took place.--Consulting
