CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I think Olin is an excellent program and offers the diversity of challenges that any aspiring business professional needs to go to the next level. I love my fellow students and all of my finance and accounting professors.--Finance

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I think it depends on what they want from a program. Olin is an excellent school for general management. It has outstanding faculty, a highly collegial environment, and terrific access to experiential opportunities.--Consulting

I have encouraged many of my friends to attend Washington University's Olin School of Business. I have answered their questions, forwarded them school brochures, explained the benefits of the MBA program (and how it meets their personal requirements), and expanded on my own MBA story.--Investment Banking

Olin's personalized approach is unmatched and the quality of the facutly is to be admired. All my professors knew me by first name within the first week of school, and I have no doubt that I will stay in touch with many of them after school. Olin provides a truly family-style experience.--Marketing

I would urge friends and colleagues to enroll in the same MBA program because I believe the financial value was superb. It also allowed the opportunity to explore and learn about various career occupations as well as many other industries. As a result of my MBA, I will most likely double my salary.--Not Available

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] My friends are hardworking go-getters with strong ethics. They would fit into the Olin culture.--Marketing

I worked on a project for Boeing that included spending a week at an off-site brainstorming workshop. The goal was to help develop business plans for internal start-ups. The workshop provided excellent insight into the nuts and bolts of creating a start-up.--Finance

[Did consulting project enhance learning?] Through the Taylor Community Consulting Program, I developed a marketing plan for Nelly's nonprofit foundation 4Sho4Kids to assist the organization in marketing Nelly's signature shoe, the Air Derrty by Nike. As a result, I was offered a summer internship at 4Sho4Kids. I was responsible for marketing and publicity for Jes Us 4 Jackie, a national bone marrow registry drive, named in honor of Nelly's sister Jackie who is suffering from leukemia. I also developed a marketing plan, press kit, and brochure for the foundation. It was a challenging and fun internship experience that has helped me to think more creatively and strategically and to apply the various frameworks and knowledge I acquired in class.--Marketing

My experience reinforced the importance of common communication abilities and managing others. It was important to see that all the quantitative concepts I have learned can take one only so far and that dealing with people to get productive results is still extremely important.--Finance

My team and I were able to meet regularly with the chairman and CEO of a St. Louis-based publicly traded company (Angelica, stock symbol AGL). We produced a report as to how they should view their struggling Life Uniform retail division. They were determining whether to shed this division and wanted some additional input. Both individuals had run other public companies and their experiences were invaluable to our project. We got a good inside look at the decisions that must be made at the top to maintain profits and were able to then see those decisions played out after the termination date of the project.--Not Available

I worked on a consulting project for a local nonprofit which is something I would like to get into at some point in my career. I believe the work I performed gave me a great understanding of the business issues small non-profits face, vs. what I deal with at a large corporation. I don't believe I could have gained that knowledge if I didn't work on the project.--Finance

I worked on a business plan with a start-up company. Our team did marketing research on consumers and industry analysis, projected financials, fundraising, and after completing the business plan, competed as a finalist in a business-plan competition. This real-life experience took learning outside the classroom and helped me learn the real needs and demands of a start-up company.--Marketing

The Olin School of Business has equipped me with skill sets, knowledge, and experience needed to become a leader in a time of intense competition and global change. I have learned much more than management theory and practice; I have acquired new ways of thinking that have profoundly changed my life and can positively impact the success of my organization.--Marketing

Washington University is one of the most accessible schools of the top-ranked schools. I participated in two independent study projects where teachers committed their personal time over the course of an entire year to coach me in advanced fixed-income valuation. This went beyond the scope of the coursework and helped me land my ideal position with Citigroup Alternative Investments in New York. My focus and their attention has changed my life. The confluence of the quality of the professors and their accessibility is what makes Olin excel.--Finance

While not perfect, the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis is, without doubt, a fantastic place for people to learn, grow, and develop into the people they want to be. I have not, nor will I ever, second-guess my decision to attend Olin.--Marketing

I worked on a project developing a balanced scorecard process for the city of St. Louis. This enhanced my learning experience by solidifying the purpose and the structure of the balanced scorecard, and it also helped me garner a better understanding of the inner workings of city government.--Finance

The Olin School of Business offers a rewarding and challenging MBA program to students seeking a top-quality business education. The program provided me with both the academic training and personal development (leadership skills, teamwork, network, etc.) that I needed to advance my career. I would highly recommend the program to anyone looking to pursue a full-time two-year MBA program.--Finance
