CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I believe the program is relatively strong. The operations curriculum is a little weak, but I already had strength in that area. This is definitely a close organization where everyone knows everyone. It is also a friendly evironment and people really care.--Operations
I workerd on a consulting project for the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce from October until February. My report was published by the chamber and received national attention in the media.--Consulting
I worked on a project with American Express Mexico. The experience of working via teleconferences with a team that was distant both geographically and culturally was great.--Finance
Wake Forest is a school for a specific type of person. It is small, intimate, and has a big emphasis on teamwork and community. Although it is possible to work anywhere coming out of Wake, I would not recommend it to someone who is focused on doing investment banking in New York or high-tech in San Francisco to the exclusion of all other opportunities.--Marketing
I believe the best thing about Babcock is the inclusion of international students. The admissions committee reserves 30% of the class for international students. This greatly added to our diversity and to my personal learning. I believe that the perspectives brought by international students are invaluable. The friendships that I have made with people from all over the world are my best take-away from B-school. But I think that, even with the inclusion of the international students, our class is still too white and too male. Out of a class of 118 students, only 25 were female. Only seven were African-American. We had several Latin American students, but only one hispanic person who was a U.S. citizen. I believe that the program would be much stronger if it were not so dominated by white men. I'm sure Babcock is not the worst offender in this category, but white males dominate all aspects of the experience.--Operations
Babcock's biggest weakness is its inability to attract recruiters to campus. It became apparent that this was largely a function of being in too small of a town and having relatively few students for recruiters to choose from. Recently major changes have been made in what appears to be a concerted effort to revamp the recruiting office personnel -- unfortunately, this was long overdue. Another major shortcoming of Babcock is the second-year curriculum. The Operations curriculum and many electives fell disappointingly short of my expectations. But, overall, the experience was well worth the effort solely in terms of close realtionships formed with both faculty and fellow students. Babcock has some very talented faculty members who are dedicated to the school.-- Entrepreneurship
Through the Management Consulting Practicum, I developed a plan to meet the client's needs, managed the client's expectations, developed a tool to enhance analysis and presentation, and delivered a superior product that exceeded requirements.--Consulting
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Wake Forest has an outstanding program with faculty who are dedicated to only B-school students, thus faculty/student interaction is very high, especially considering the small class size. I am now good friends with several of my former professors.--Entrepreneurship
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Depends on geographic location at which they would like to work after getting an MBA. Wake Forest MBAs seeking jobs in certain areas such as the West Coast or Midwest have a harder time than the large percentage who stay in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.--Marketing
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] Working with a real company removes the "safety" of a class assignment. Assumptions and suggested courses of action must be grounded in reality. Presentations to the business owners became the integral link to communicate your ideas.--Not Available
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] I performed market-research analysis that could be applied to future jobs.--Marketing
From the moment I met the faculty and staff at Wake Forest, I knew that it was where I wanted to attend business school. Some schools seem so genuinely concerned about the rankings, it clouds the judgement of what is best for the school. While Wake certainly looks at the rankings and would like to be as high as possible, the administration takes the approach that it is a small school with a personal touch and that is where the focus shall remain. Essentially, I was won over by the school that was comfortably ranked 37th in the past.--Not Available
