CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The Rotman program is a great way to get on the fast track. The foundation is solid and the program is experimenting to remain current and valuable. People from all walks of business life can benefit from the program.--Consulting
Rotman is an excellent value. The price is very reasonable in comparison to American schools, and I believe the quality is excellent and improving continuously. The dean interacts closely with students, and we see him as a visionary leading the school to great improvements. Toronto is a great place to live and it is well-situated realative to the center of Canadian business. I have already encouraged friends to consider Rotman and one friend is in the incoming class of 2006. I was encouraged by friends to consider Rotman when I was making my school selection.--Consulting
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The Rotman school has developed a culture of constant improvement. Since the school itself strives to be the best in the world, the effect on students is similar: Everyone strives to be world leaders and wants to be compared to peers on a global, not local, basis. The program has excellent instructors, great facilities, and an outstanding support network of alumni.--Consulting
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] It was a great experience and provided me with knowledge, thought processes, and confidence to propel my career forward.--Marketing
My team conducted a project for a not-for-profit, which provided very valuable insight into the interpersonal dynamics of that sector. The project also helped us learn to balance the "best" thing with the "possible" thing and achieve the best results.--Consulting
We were able to participate in consulting projects in various courses (statistics, HR). The projects were helpful as they gave an opportunity to get real-world feedback to back up the classroom theory.--Consulting
I had a chance to work on several consulting projects, and they were great learning opportunities. For sure they are the best part of the MBA program. They were time-consuming, but the nature of the problem required an integrative approach that went far beyond the course material.--Entrepreneurship
The MBA at Rotman was a life-changing experience. Coming from a creative background (architecture and graphic design), I was able to develop strategic and analytical skills that allowed me to "change sides" on my career. My current position as a business analyst in a major multinational company is only possible because of the MBA. Despite having great faculty and installations, Rotman is located in Toronto, the multicultural financial heart of Canada, offering not only great chances for future employment but also amazing networking. I'd definitely recommend Rotman to anyone considering an MBA in a top business school.--Marketing
Overall, I found the Rotman MBA thoroughly engaging. Apart from the strong curriculm and accomplished faculty, I would highlight my classmates as the single largest factor in my enjoyment of the MBA. I met talented people from a diverse mix of industries who I hope to keep in contact with for years to come.--Investment Banking
Rotman continues to improve its reputation as one of the top MBA schools in Canada. While the school continues to excel in placing students in finance and consulting positions, there seems to be less emphasis on attracting recruiters from other career paths (general management, marketing, operations, etc.). I would definitely recommend the school to those looking to build a career in finance or consulting.--Finance
For a marketing communications class we teamed up with a group from OCAD (an art school) to provide media solutions for a nonprofit organizations (Salvation Army). The whole experience was extremely enlightening and gave us a true taste of the challenges, frustrations, and reward of the "real world" since it was in fact a real assignment.--Marketing
Overall, I feel that the Rotman School has made excellent strides in improving the curriculum, quality of faculty, and the direction of the school, but still has a long way to go in building its reputation internationally as a top-tier business school. Within Canada, it has definitely solidified itself as one of the top two schools in the country, but the brand recognition and exposure is minimal in the United States and globally. Although it is difficult to change perceptions overnight, I think the school can increase visibility in the United States through partnerships with some of the leading Ivy League schools in the same way that Schulich has. This is the only way that the school will be able to reach top-10 business school status.--Finance
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] This project was unique because it was a joint effort between Rotman students and students from another school (a graphic art and design college). We, therefore, had to manage the expectations, work styles, and opinions/expertise of our group, the other school's group, and our client. It was interesting to see that in the second year, our thought patterns, methods of analysis, and even methods of organizing our team had converged. We were definitely shaken up by the patterns of another school, and I think that it was a great learning experience.--Marketing
