CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] This program has been a fulfilling experience. The culture is team-oriented and collegial, the faculty is highly engaged in student life, the finance and accounting programs are really strong, and Austin is a fantastic place to live.--Marketing
I would encourage anyone interested in an MBA to consider McCombs. I feel that the program easily provided an ROI that exceeded my expectations. I learned a tremendous amount while at school, consider my experiences in the Plus program as a differentiator, and made life-lasting friendships. McCombs has a truly collaborative atmosphere that removes competitiveness from the equation so that everyone can participate and grow as a future business leader.--Marketing
I would urge friends or colleagues to attend McCombs for multiple reasons, including extremely high quality of fellow students, outstanding professors, innovative curriculum, educational value, and the fact that Austin is a dynamic business environment with a multitude of venture-capital firms, technology start-ups, and some world-class companies, such as Dell.--Entrepreneurship
UT was everything that I hoped my graduate experience would be. Because I was a business undergrad, initially I was concerned that much of the material would be redundant. It was not. I learned more in the two years here than I did in four years of undergrad and five years working.--Marketing
As part of the Plus Program, I worked with a small local firm and helped them develop a business and marketing plan. I was able to apply newly learned academic skills to the real world, which is what an MBA is all about.--Entrepreneurship
I had the opportunity to participate in two consulting projects for existing companies while I attended UT. One, in the spring semester of my first year, involved working in a team of four to help Dow Chemical with market research and business-plan development for a new piece of technology. While working on this project, we also had the opportunity to have our work critiqued by consultants from EG&Y who also gave us some insight into a career in consulting. The second project was part of a Global Business class I took as part of our Texas Plus program. For this project I worked in a team of three for 3M researching the viability of "Fiber to the Premise" technologies for the Chilean market.--Finance
I did projects at Frito-Lay and Michael Angelo's (frozen entrees). These experiences helped me gain the experience necessary to land both my internship and my current position.--Marketing
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] It allowed me to explore a prospective industry that I was interested in pursuing after graduation.--Consulting
I worked on a consulting project for NBC. This was a good view of the responsibilites involved with consulting for a big company.--Marketing
I made real connections with successful local entrepreneurs who appreciated my work experience and gave us a real business problem with which they were dealing. Everyone involved felt they had made valuable connections to build their network. The project was challenging and currently being implemented in the marketplace. I feel proud of my work, and it gave me confidence to use similar skills to analyze future projects with success.--Marketing
I performed an internal audit engagement of Texas Pension Review Board. It was my first formal audit ever, and I got a good idea of the entire process from preparing the engagement letter, audit planning, client interviews, audit execution, work paper maintenance, exit conference, and final report presentation. It was a unique real-life learning experience that has provided me confidence to handle such audits with confidence in the future.--Finance
For my PLUS Global Project, my group consulted for a large U.S.-based Industrial Real Estate Company looking at the South American market for potential entry. This was an excellent opportunity to engage in both a consulting project and experience the intricacies of international business.--Finance
I'm very happy with the MBA program at McCombs. It not only gave me great managerial tools, but also helped me to find a great job in Dell (Treasury).--Not Available
My experience at McCombs was great. I loved it. I would recommend the school to anyone who is interested in applying to an MBA program. The quality of teachers, classes, and people at UT McCombs are outstanding.--Investment Banking
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The MBA at McCombs has prepared me well for the next step of my career. Overall, the school has a good work/social life balance. But, most importantly, it provides students with all the resources (coursework, industry contacts, knowledgeable and accessible professors, real-life business training opportunities, etc.) to achieve future goals.--Not Available
When evaluating MBA programs, I took several factors into consideration -- specifically, I wanted a school with a strong sense of community. I had too many friends attend top-10 schools in the northeast who constantly complained about competition and that everyone was out for themselves. McCombs is just the opposite; every student wants to see his classmates succeed.--Entrepreneurship
