CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The curriculum is quite similar to most other MBA programs I have seen or to what other MBA students have told me about their curriculum. The Temple faculty and administration is very strong and dedicated to increasing Temple's reputation in the Philadelphia region. Many teach and conduct research, so that is always a plus. From what I have witnessed, Temple's IMBA, healthcare, risk management, and strategic management courses are its strengths. In my opinion, the MIS department was a little weak in teaching the application of technology in a real-world setting. The alumni network and career services was also weak but is developing.--Information Technology

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The IMBA is unique in that there is an extensive international living experience. I would certainly encourage my friends who would like the international experience to take the IMBA.--Not Available

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The program was outstanding and gave me a wide understanding of business, especially in entrepreneurship. However, it is very intense and it is challenging for family life mostly becaus eof the travel involved.--Entrepreneurship

I consulted for an Indian steel-manufacturing company. Being able to work with an established foreign firm was rewarding.--Finance

[Did consulting project enhance learning?] While pursuing my MBA in finance I found that operations and strategy were more to my enjoyment than finance. The consulting class let me delve into something I enjoy through research, learning, and applying analytical skills to solve problems or provide solutions to challenges faced by a small start-up company with big ideas.--Operations

Through our Global Entrepreneurship in Technology project, we learned how to assess a market, prepare a market entry strategy, and write a business plan including financials for an Indian steel company. We considered such factors as steel tariffs, market shifts in the U.S., the distribution and relationship structure in the steel industry in creating a sensible and achievable strategy for our Indian steel company.--Not Available

All IMBA students participated in the Global Entrepreneurship in Technology (GET) consulting project, which is what the IMBA program is based on. My team consulted for an Irish technology firm that wanted to enter the U.S. market. The teams were formed in Paris following meetings with the entrepreneurs, and the project itself was conducted in Philadelphia, with constant feedback from Dublin. Our team of four performed primary research, competitive analysis, developed marketing and strategic plans, and finally presented a full business plan at the Temple venture fair. A prominent VC personality then invited our team to a professional VC fair in Delaware. Of note is the fact that the GET project is completely integrated with our IMBA coursework, and projects for the entire class included companies from the United States, Ireland, India, and Israel, and covered a variety of industries in various stages of growth. Just before our departure for our final semester in Japan, all members of the team were offered jobs with this firm. The firm is currently based out of Fifth Avenue in New York and has strong investment backing. Its clients consist of Fortune 1000 firms. This experience has given me tremendous confidence in my own abilities and has transformed my career goals and expectations. I consulted for this firm for six months but have now decided to return to school for my PhD in international management. Two other team members are working full time for the firm.--Consulting

The Temple administration is doing a lot to move the school up the rankings, which is a positive aspect. However, it still needs to improve the career services and alumni network (outside of Philadelphia) a lot. The school has also started to accept only students who meet minimum requirements (GMAT scores, work experience, etc.), which was not the case previously. Since Temple is mostly a commuter school, located in the heart of central Philly, it needs to motivate and foster an atmosphere where full-time students want to get together and do more social activities outside of class.--Information Technology

I worked as director of a U.S.-based team of four individuals of various cultural backgrounds. I also served as liaison with an Israeli-based group in the development of a business plan/presentation for investors for an Israeli medical-device company. The project culminated in the group presenting to a group of potential investors at a venture fair in Philadelphia. I was able to use this experience to gain leadership skills and real-world experience in the area of consulting.--Marketing

The highlight of my MBA experience was the international nature of my degree. Delivered across three different international cities, I had access to people, ideas, and cultures that you can't experience from case studies and textbooks. I also had the opportunity to develop a real business plan for a an Irish start-up company that was looking to enter the U.S. market. The experience was invaluable.--Not Available
