CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS

Rice is strongest in finance, so if someone was interested in something other than finance I may not endorse the program as strongly. The program is trying to become more balanced, so things are changing at Rice.--Finance

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Rice has an excellent curriculum, particularly with respect to finance and strategy. The school attracts many top recruiters in each of these fields. The culture is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Houston is a cosmopolitan, yet affordable city in which to live.--Investment Banking

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] It is a great program that is definitely on the rise. I had an excellent time here and learned a lot from both the faculty and other students.--Finance

It is a requirement that all first-year students participate in the Action Learning Project (ALP). My particular project involved the creation of a marketing strategy for the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. I believe that the capstone of Rice's business program is the ALP, a real-world business experience that gives you an edge during the job search process. We are prepared to become the future business leaders of America and this real-life experience serves to enhance those skills.--Consulting

I participated in a consulting project for one of the big four accounting firms building an Excel-based revenue forecasting model. I had not done such advanced modeling before, and I learned a lot from my teammates in the process. It was also informative to learn more about the business functioning and challenges inside the firm.--Consulting

[Did consulting project enhance learning?] My project gave me good material to discuss in my Finance interviews.--Finance

We worked on a real project with Continental Airlines. The company benefitted from the project and we got to work with an industry leader during a time of major crisis in the airline industry.--Accounting

I would highly recommend Rice University's full-time MBA program. You come out with a sense of confidence and ability after extensive leadership, communications, and analytical training.--Marketing

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Students are involved in leadership roles throughout the school, contributing their time, effort, and skills to sustaining and advancing the program. I feel this environment allows many students to have a meaningful impact in shaping the Jones School and to showcase their leadership skills.--Consulting

My consulting project experience through a B-school class helped broaden my exposure and allowed me to have another distinctly different work experience separate from my summer internship.--Consulting

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The experience was incredible. We were able to study in a new facility with a larger and more qualified faculty.--Finance

I had little business experience before school. The consulting project gave me great, real-world experience on a project that truly mattered to the company. It was a classic win-win situation.--Operations

[Did consulting project enhance learning?] My team consulted a local nonprofit. We developed a strategic plan for the organization and provided steps and recommendations to the board of directors to increase communication and effectiveness throughout the organization. The opportunity to work outside of the for-profit world increased the breadth of my experience. Additionally, working with local business leaders added depth to my experience.--Finance
