CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS

After completing my summer internship, I asked myself if Carlson made me better. The answer was yes. Not only did I deepen my marketing expertise, but I added a breadth of understanding that gives me better perspective on the other functional areas of a firm such as finance and operations. This educational experience made me better this summer, and it is going to make me a better manager over the long run.--Marketing

I would definitely recommend the school to anyone intending to live in the upper midwest states after graduation as well as those who have no specific geographic preference. If someone has strong intentions to live in places such as New York or California and has the option of attending a quality institution in that area, I would recommend he consider Carlson, however all other factors being equal, I would suggest they attend the school in his target geography.--Not Available

If friends want an MBA, I would urge them to attend Carlson because of the combination of academic, work experience integration, and networking.--Information Technology

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] This program offers a good connection with the Twin Cities business community, offers hands-on enterprise programs in various interest areas, and many opportunities for extra-curricular activities. In addition, the students are talented and genuine. Finally, I felt that our faculty and staff were sincerely trying to help us learn and grow as future business leaders but also had concern for us as individuals.--Marketing

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The contacts gained while in B-school are invaluable. I believe it is these contacts that will help me progress to the next level in my career.--Investment Banking

[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The Enterprise programs provided by the school are unique to the Carlson School of Management and are an invaluable learning tool. There is also a rich and varied corporate community in the Twin Cities.--Finance

[Did consulting project enhance learning?] Very much so. I did 2 projects with a leading leisure company and a nutraceutical start up. It helps to complete my academic training with real-world experience.--Marketing

I participated in two consulting projects through Carlson Brand Enterprise. Both experiences gave me the opportunity to learn about strategic and tactical marketing topics that I would not have been exposed to through a classroom environment. Furthermore, interactions with clients and managing the consulting team were critical learning experiences that I will apply in my new position.--Marketing

I did an operations consulting project for a local firm. Ostensibly we looked at the impact of their supply chain lag on the firm's financials (cash conversion cycle). This was a great experience as it allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone (marketing) and apply some of the models from operations and finance class.--Marketing

I was a member of the Carlson Consulting Enterprise. The program is very challenging, and very worth while. Projects are real consulting projects, charging real money, for projects that are student driven that derive real results. Often, results are reported directly to senior management team members. It is an excellent opportunity to get a taste of the consulting world. As well, it is a hands-on opportunity to further develop leadership, team, presentation, and project management skills.--Marketing

The Enterprise programs are a great way to work on a real-world project while learning about team dynamics and leadership.--Finance

The consulting projects allowed us to apply our classwork onto real business problems, involving strategy, analysis, and final presentations to executives.--Information Technology

The Carlson school has made excellent strides in revamping its administration, and I feel it is well prepared for the future. I think the school is undervalued in the access it gives students to the local area businesses. Areas of improvement for Carlson are out-of-state placement and the strength of its alumni network.--Marketing

Carlson should be commended on its ability to recruit top professors. The real-world experience I had was phenomonal. I hope that it one day gets the recognition it is due.--Not Available

I participated in the New Product Design and Business Development program. We partnered with the College of Engineering and a large multi-national manufacturing firm to develop a proof-of-concept for a new product line. The yearlong project afforded the opportunity to comprehensively apply all that I had learned in B-school (market segmentation, branding, financial modeling, pricing, marketing research and analysis, business strategy, teamwork, leadership, project management, presentations, intellectual property issues). It was a fantastic opportunity.--Marketing
