CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
The University of Illinois has dramatically increased in rankings, continues to work to improve its program, and strives to attract top students around the world who have excellent academic and communication skills. Additionally, the U of I provides an excellent education at a very reasonable price compared to many other schools in the top-50 tier of MBA programs.--Marketing
Illinois MBA program provides an opportunity for students to get real-world experience in their chosen career path through OSBI Consulting. This is a professionally managed, MBA-led consulting organization that engages about 150 top students from different colleges and departments across the campus. The faculty pitches lends a hand to the project teams that are usually engaged by Fortune 500 firms. To me, this was the most distinguishing feature of the Illinois MBA program, and I will enthusistically recommend my school to anybody who really wants to learn from a business school.--Consulting
I believe that the Illinois MBA program has expanded the way I evaluate problems. The business skills I have learned truly improved my capabilities in determining a solution for any situation. Now I am equipped with both business and technical knowledge. It is possible that another college could have provided a similar experience, however, I do know that the IMBA has helped me reach a higher level of learning.--Consulting
The education you can get in this MBA exceeded my expectations. But the countryside location of the school makes people who lived in an urban area feel somewhat bored.--Finance
I participated in five consulting projects through OSBI Consulting -- a professionally managed, MBA-led management consulting organization within the College of Business. The experience taught me the importance of team work, client interaction, and diligent research, which is needed to provide a quality deliverable. I also worked in two other projects for primarily startup firms through the Center for Entrepreneurial Develoment (CED), another College of Business organization.--Consulting
I worked on two consulting projects, one for General Motors, and another for a small local company related to Thomas Monahan, Inc. Both gave me great experience in consulting and automotive engineering, two of my biggest interests. The General Motors project was through the office of Strategic Business Initiatives (OSBI), and the other project was part of an elective, Small Business Consulting.--Not Available
We built a database for the client in MS Access. No one knew how to use/work with Access, so it was really quite amazing that we sat down and figured out how to build a database -- searchable and sortable.--Operations
Performing consulting work for an outside company gave me insight on both the nature of consulting as well as the complexities of small business in general.--Information Technology
There was amazing camaraderie in our class. I will miss my classmates and professors immensely, but have no doubt that we will keep in touch.--Not Available
OSBI Consulting is the Illinois MBA student organization created to offer consulting services to diverse companies. I was involved in a couple of projects. One of them was with the world’s No. 1 company in its industry, and the experience was very positive. The team designed and conducted a market-research plan to find insights that can be used to bring valuable recommendations. We received congratulations for the results. I think I learned a lot -- from how to create value for a company that spends millions in marketing to how to communicate effectively with my peers and client.]--Consulting
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] It allowed us to experience the practical problems and challenges associated with bringing a real product to market.--Marketing
If somebody asks me what the best of the Illinois MBA is, I will not know which to say: The high quality of its professors or the good friends you can make. Anyway, it is an outstanding experience.--Consulting
