CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I specialized in the Health Sector Management program which allowed me to not only switch functions but also switch industries. I also felt that the team atmosphere at Fuqua is a perfect environment for learning and absorbing the vast resources available through the top-notch faculty to the diverse student population.--Consulting
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The students are incredibly intelligent with a broad array of backgrounds and experiences that they freely share inside and outside of the classroom. The team-oriented culture is pervasive throughout the school. Many of the faculty are at the leading edge of their respective fields, especially finance. The faculty and staff are responsive to student initiatives.--Investment Banking
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The small group environment and team atmosphere made the program a tremendous success for me. The location of the school makes housing much more affordable than other schools and I have never met anyone at the school who was cut-throat or unwilling to help someone.--Operations
I could not imagine a better place to go to business school. I have tried to convince a number of friends to come to Fuqua, and have succeeded with some of them. I think Fuqua has an incredible mix of strong academics, a vibrant social scene, and the best people around. The enthusiasm for the program among its students is second to none. Everyone here wants to be here, and you can feel that energy every day. It has truly been a great place to go to school, and I'm very sad I have to leave.--Consulting
Duke is a great place to spend two years. I seriously considered settling here permanantly. The school runs flawlessly without red tape -- "like buttah."--Entrepreneurship
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Fuqua offers outstanding academic resources, a collegial atmosphere with team-oriented peers, an exceptional quality of life for a low cost of living, and beautiful facilities.--Marketing
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] My project involved helping a nonprofit raise money for a major home building effort. I viewed business school as something applicable for the long-term in my career. Many people early on in their career don't seem to realize that as a business leader you are typically expected to also be a civic leader. This experience enhanced my understanding of the challenges that nonprofits and their board members go through in raising money.--Finance
The small business consulting project was clearly one of the most valuable experiences I had at Fuqua. The project allows me to intergrate concepts from both financial and marketing courses to deliver useful recommendations to my client. While the project was very time-consuming, I would do it again in a second.--Marketing
I participated in a marketing practicum class. I was the only person on my team who had not taken a single marketing elective at school. The ability of my teammates to enhance my consulting experience by teaching me the application of marketing frameworks will probably have a more significant impact on my value of the discipline than any lecture ever could have had.--Finance
I conducted an independent study project and worked with a New York-based consulting firm. I got to use analytical and problem solving skills to make an impact on real world decisions.--Marketing
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] Fuqua has several programs, and I participated in two of them. Fuqua was very supportive, offered appropriate resources, and I loved both experiences.--Entrepreneurship
One of the primary reasons that I chose Fuqua was the the momentum at the school and its committment to making positive changes. After spending two years at Fuqua, the momemtum and committment to become better is even stronger. I'm confident that the administration is set on making Fuqua the best business school it can be.--Not Available
I'm proud to have an MBA from Duke University. It was an excellent experience with tons of opportunity to explore different interests, stretch in areas that needed development, and interact with dynamic, engaging students and professors.--Marketing
I worked for the Women's Center of Chapel Hill as a member of the board. It gave me real insight into the issues faced by non profits as well as board members of organizations.--Not Available
I had the opportunity to work for a small, specialty business. It enhanced my learning experience because it was an atypical company -- one which would not have been studied in a traditional classroom setting. I encountered problems that did not fit nicely into classroom models, so I needed to adapt the models and really analyze the situation to figure out what to do.--Entrepreneurship
In my two years at Fuqua, I was consistently blown away by the intelligence and caliber of my classmates, specifically, their desire to lead their peers and make a positive impact on the community.--Marketing
I am very happy with my Fuqua network. Fuqua was the right choice for me because of its emphasis on recruiting well-rounded people who are friendly and interested in collaboration. I made lasting friendships with a lot of smart, driven people who make ethics and helping others a priority. I honestly did not expect to find that in B-school. I thought Durham was the best learning environment because there are few distractions at Duke (besides occassional basketball games, of course). I love living in New York city now, but I'm glad I got my MBA in a small community. I'd definitely do it again.--Marketing
