CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS

I think Goizueta offers a unique combination of academic excellence, a strong sense of community and good career positioning. I enjoyed attending a smaller school where there is no anonymity. After speaking to my friends at other business schools, I think that the experience at Goizueta is unsurpassed.--Finance

I greatly appreciated the sense of community at Goizueta. Many MBA programs have the reputation for being cutthroat. While my classmates and I were very competitive, we all looked out for each other as well and wanted each person to succeed. This created a great environment for learning and personal growth.--Finance

Emory's MBA program has tremendous positive momentum, and the administration is aggressively improving every aspect of the program to make it a top-10 school within the next five to 10 years. The environment features a great mix of collaboration, team-based interaction and healthy competition. My fellow students are friendly and offer help when needed. I know 95% of my class, and they know me. Smiles and positive attitudes are required! There are more social events than time to attend them all. The seven core values (courage, integrity, accountability, rigor, diversity, team, community) are an integral part of the curriculum, program, and environment, and the Honor Code is strictly enforced.--Marketing

The Goizueta Business School is not only an MBA where you go and learn about business. It is an experience one will never forget. It is all about the people. It is a place where an entire class contributed to buy an air ticket for a student so he could go back to Africa and see his newborn child. It is a place where that same class got another ticket for a person to go back home and celebrate finishing his Ironman with his family, since they couldn't be there because of his mother's cancer. Goizueta is much more than a business school. It is a family where professional lives are as important as personal ones.--Entrepreneurship

Goizueta is an excellent program. The small size allows students to be involved and take on leadership postitions. The curriculum is rigorous while broad enough to accommodate concentrations from Real Estate to Marketing.--Operations

Goizueta is a school with a lot of momentum; it is clearly increasing its visibility with peers, recruiters and the global business environment. It provides value, especially since I had a significant scholarship. I had access to the same resources as I would at a top-10 program. I interviewed with the same firms, I landed a job that a top-10 graduate would want, so I got my money's worth without getting into an overtly competitive program.--Consulting

The community at Goizueta is incredible. There are countless resources to assist you with course selection, career goals, life aspirations, and the job search. The faculty and staff are always willing to make themselves available to help students with course material or job searches. The student body is sharp and literally follows the motto "work hard, play hard." The experience at Goizueta begins in the classroom, but you quickly realize that there is a great deal more to getting an MBA than just the academic piece of it. I made many lifelong friends who will always be there to support me on a personal and professional basis. Additionally, the information that I learned in the classroom is a result of top-notch professors that do a phenomenal job of incorporating real-life situations into a learning environment.--Finance

Through the Goizueta Marketing Strategy Competition, I gained invaluable hands-on experience in the area of marketing and consulting: Defining problems, gathering marketing analytics, working with the team, managing client expectations, formulating recommendations, and presenting to the client.--Marketing

Having the ability to leverage Goizueta's strong connections allowed us to work closely with Home Depot. This experience was a phenomenal opportunity to merge theory with practice in a real-world, yet fairly risk-free environment.--Not Available

I worked closely with EarthLink on enhancing its dial-up business. My team presented to its chief marketing officer. She later became president of CIBA Vision North America, and has offered me the chance to be her management associate.--Marketing

I had the opportunity to develop a concept and a business plan for an extension of Emory Health Care that would operate as a nonprofit incubator to develop treatments for infectious disease in developing countries. This taught me both critical thinking and gave me good experience in business-plan development.--Finance

Teamwork is something that is not only stressed in the classroom at Goizueta. There are many good things happening for the school, and I truly believe that these are a direct consequence of students, faculty, and staff working together. The extraordinary sense of community is, in my opinion, the school's greatest asset.--Not Available

The best part of my MBA experience was the opportunity to help create a new class for the finance curriculum. I was one of three students who recognized the need to improve the opportunities for students in the asset/investment management field. The school offered an abundance of finance classes that teach the theoretical side of finance, but was somewhat lacking in terms of putting the theories into practice. Our plan had two parts: First, increase funding for the student-managed investment fund, and second, offer a new class that focuses on real-world investment practice and techniques. The school was eager to work with us on both counts. The school stepped forward and increased the size of the investment fund from $40,000 to $250,000. The new class that we created was even more exciting. The school allowed us to find a qualified individual from the community who is currently a practicing investment professional to teach the class. Along with the new adjunct professor, we designed the class to teach students about all aspects of running an investment management firm, which special emphasis on security analysis and portfolio management. The class was offered for the first time this spring and was a resounding success.--Finance

After speaking with several friends who attended other top-tier MBA programs in the last five years, I am convinced that I not only had the most access to professors and recruiting opportunities, but I also have the best opportunity for networking in the future.--Marketing

Any time you have the opportunity to apply classroom theory to real-world problems, it is going to be beneficial. I had the opportunity to take part in a marketing project in my desired career field, so it not only enhanced my understanding of the marketing function, but also offered industry contacts and knowledge.--Marketing

The program stresses learning effective communication skills and has an entire core class devoted to these skills. Public speaking, presentation skills, and persuasive skills are developed, which are all critical tools for future business leaders. In the words of former Coke CEO Roberto C. Goizueta, "Communication is the only skill a leader can not delegate." I firmly believe that these skills will be vital to my success in the future.--Consulting

I felt that Goizueta was striving to be the best business school in the country and the leadership and faculty reflected that.--Finance

Most of my classwork was heavily focused on strategy or decision-information analysis. I had only taken one marketing class and was looking to expand on some of the ideas I had learned there, but without taking another entire class. The consulting project gave me the opportunity to work with several of my classmates, and I was able to utilize their various levels of expertise in marketing, while helping them with my experience in the more quantitative classes. The project was something that was set up with a local company by our program director.--Consulting

Goizueta treats its MBA program as a business, that is, making sure its customers (students) get what they pay for and that expectations are not just met, but exceeded. This philosophy is practiced by the deans -- who know the students on an individual basis (possibly due to the relatively small class size) -- who constantly ask us: How can we make the school and your experience better?--Entrepreneurship
