CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Coming from investment banking, Darden was exactly what I was looking for. The education, the friends and classmates, and the time in Charlottesville were well worth the cost. I was looking for a challenging experience that would broaden my entire business understanding, while at the same time allow me to have a good time and forge lasting relationships. Darden allowed me this.--Not Available
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] It is a good program, but the town is so small that I miss some of the city life I had.--Finance
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I had the best two years of my life, so certainly I would recommend Darden to anybody. I got everything I wanted in terms of education, experience, career, and relationships, so I would strongly urge friends and colleagues to take a close look at Darden.--Investment Banking
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I don't think you can find the community, curriculum, faculty involvement, facilities, and level of students in one package anywhere other than Darden. I never expected to learn this much and feel so well rounded after leaving business school.--Marketing
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Darden is a great place to expand your understanding of the cross-functional nature of business. We're not confined to a silo here -- we have the opportunity to see all aspects: Finance, operations, accounting, marketing, strategy, and organizational behavior.--Not Available
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The right mix of curriculum and extracurricular activities helped me achieve a great deal of learning while enhancing my personality and leadership skills. The case method approach allows students to deal with more real-life situations and enforces decision-making discipline.--Finance
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I have enjoyed the program and, while I am still looking for a position, I feel my options are definitely much wider than two years ago.--Marketing
I worked with a local Chevrolet dealership to conduct a promotional mailing to prior customers. We developed a scientific test to determine the optimal combination of promotional period and discount amount to maximize return on investment. It was a great hands-on experience for me; it also led to actionable information for the company's $1 million annual marketing budget.--Finance
I did a consulting project for a local business along with three classmates. Over the course of a few months, we created, administered, and analyzed three different surveys in our efforts to help the company form its strategic position. This was excellent preparation for marketing, strategy, etc. It was also helpful to get immersed into a real business situation, where my input counted for dollars.--Finance
I did a consulting project in direct marketing for an insurance company during the last quarter. I had two faculty advisors, who would literally drop everything to meet with me as I ran into challenges. I learned more about direct marketing by working on an actual business problem with the company than I did in class. Having the professors there helped me see the link between in-classroom learning and real-world experience.--Marketing
I'm going into real estate, and I did a consulting project for a local developer. I gained valuable exposure to the site planning and political approvals process.--Finance
I was put in contact with a local firm trying to sell a building, which provided me with an opportunity to practice what I have learned in classes in a real situation before embarking on my new career.--Not Available
Darden provides many extracurricular activities for its students that are extremely valuable, such as the Darden Capital Management program which allows students to actively manage a significant portion of the school's endowment in the public markets.--Investment Banking
I have no regrets regarding my decision to go to Darden. I had the pleasure of learning from high-caliber peers as well as professors. I found a few friends for life. It was a great experience.--Marketing
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Darden has a reputation as a school with a difficult, challenging workload. I feel that this is an asset of the program. The opportunity to learn as much as possible over those 20 months was great.--Consulting
Overall, Darden was an excellent educational experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the heavy emphasis on the case study method. The learning team environment was a great opportunity to foster leadership and teamwork. The quality of teaching and access to faculty was phenomenal, and the Darden network continues to be an exceptional resource.--Entrepreneurship
