CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
I think the UConn MBA holds vast potential in a number of areas. Our school/program is in the middle of a transformation -- new dean, new facility, new director of career placement, new learning accelerators. I think it is a diamond in the rough. In the next five to 10 years, the program will vault in all rankings because of the progress that is being made.--Not Available
For someone with little work experience like myself, a UConn MBA is perfect to get your career moving. I never would have dreamed of working at The Hartford before this. However if you already have some serious experience, then avoid this program at all costs. It does have some serious flaws.--Finance
UConn's program is in a transitional phase. The value of the education was superb, even if certain aspects of the program were deficient. I fully believe that my career shift will be made possible because of the knowledge I gained and the contacts I made. Like all things, you get out of a program what you put into it. I've invested in the UConn experience and anticipate high dividends going forward.--Entrepreneurship
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] It was useful to have contact with a real-world situation and with client's demands and expectations. Also, it was helpful to see the methods of obtaining the information we want to use for our project.--Finance
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] Aside from the process of learning the company's practices, defining the problem, and creating an implementatble solution, which were good learning experiences, in the end I learned that you have to decide in the beginning who your client really is when the entire course grade is based on one project, one deliverable. The business was pleased with our results, the professor apparently was not.--Marketing
I used to work in e-business as a web designer and consultant, and my consulting project allowed me to work on an e-business supply chain management assignment for Hamilton Sundstrand. I was able to apply my previous e-business and information technology experience as well as expand my given e-business skill set to provide the client with an optimal and viable solution. I was able to learn about a completely new set of technologies used in supply chain management, which I was later able to apply to my summer internship.--Marketing
UConn has made significant investments in the MBA program, including a new facility, new experiential learning program, and a new dean. I expect that these investments will result in the successful recruitment of higher caliber students, the retention of key faculty and hiring of additional faculty, and improved job placement opportunities. Through regular discussions with the dean and others within the administration, it is apparent that these and other investments are already producing positive results. I value the education I received and I am excited about the education that future students will receive.--Entrepreneurship
Overall, my MBA experience was pretty good and I feel the program has high-caliber students. It is unfortunate that recruiters do not realize this. The school should also make a better effort to get the alumni on board.--Finance
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] It gave me a good look into the "real world" of consulting. As we're working with a real company and trying to fit into its schedule it was extremely different from learning in the classroom, which is rigid and scheduled. It helped me learn to manage time and create realistic expectations when dealing with businesses.--Human Resources
