CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The quality of the faculty at Boston University's School of Management is exceptional, although I would have liked to have seen a higher concentration of students in finance. Also, I would have liked a greater selection of finance courses offered during the day (instead of the evening). The one factor that I didn't like about BU's SMG is that the business undergraduates are housed in the same building as the graduate students.--Finance
The program in public and non-profit management is superb, and any friends entering that field would be highly encouraged to attend.--Not Available
BU is a wonderful place. I highly recommend the program. I think it surpasses most people's expectations. The faculty is amazing, and students are not only bright but also very down to earth.--Marketing
The Boston University MBA program will be extremely satisfying if you desire an IT-related career. However, if you are pursing a non-high tech career path, you may be surprised by the extent technology is incorporated into the curriculum. I was always impressed by the involvement, caring, and expertise of the teaching staff so, although I wasn't looking for a high-tech related career, I felt my MBA experience was highly valuable.--Marketing
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The professionalism of the faculty, the diversity of students and their experiences, and the city of Boston made BU an unforgettable experience. I never expected the professors to be so helpful and accessible, the students to be so interesting and forthcoming, and Boston to be so much fun, the result of combining the three at BU surpassed my MBA experience expectations considerably.--Finance
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] The dean and his associates are keen on improving the quality of the program. This is evident from the efforts shown by everyone. The school has remarkable facilities, a team learning environment, active alumni network, and terrific mix of students. I think most of the faculty members are fair and extremely approachable for course and career related discussions.--Finance
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I really didn't want to go to business school. I was urged by my mentor in a prior job to apply and consider attending. I ended up receiving a scholarship to both Babson and BU for their MSMBA programs. I decided to attend business school based on this. BU's MSMBA program has vastly exceeded my expectations. I have learned more than I thought I would and the quality of students at BU is much higher than I expected, both in terms of intelligence and diverse job experience.--Finance
I think BU's MBA program improved a lot during these two years. We now have better program in terms of contents and talents and also external relationships with companies and alumni were enhanced as we had many opportunities to meet, talk, and discuss with corporate executives in various fields. Lastly, the student community at this school is great. We are very cooperative and challenging. Of course, I need to admit that we still have room for improvement, but I can recommend my friends to join this program.--Consulting
For an organizational behavior course on managing change, we analyzed a non-profit organization that was facing long-term strategic fundraising issues. Our coursework enabled us to identify barriers to change and develop useful recommendations for managing the transition. It was an effective way to apply our learning in a real world situation.--Finance
One of our courses is working for a company as a consultant. I worked with three other students from BU. The experience provided many insights into team management, communicating with managers, and presenting data during meetings with management. These are skills that I will use in my career. It was a chance for hands-on experience in managing a complex project and presenting results.--Consulting
I worked about 10 hours per week at State Street Corporation for eight months as the capstone experience for the MSIS portion of my program. In summary, it was an outstanding experience that also helped me to secure employment after graduation.--Finance
I did two different projects one for a non-profit and one for a large for-profit. I enjoyed working with the people and felt a sense of satisfaction for being able to help.--Marketing
I participated in several real-world consulting projects, all of which were outstanding learning experiences. The most interesting project was for a large consumer-electronics company that used a team of BU MBA students to review its branding strategy in Brazil and to make recommendations on how to best grow its business in the future.--Marketing
When I started my MBA, I was a refugee from the dot-com world. I never intended to go into academia afterwards. But I was so inspired by my marketing management professor (Patrick Kaufmann) that I decided to pursue a career in business academia. I had an offer to return to the company where I did my summer internship, but I am pleased to say that I was accepted into the DBA program at the University of Washington, and I hope to be "in business school" for the rest of my career.--Marketing
Boston University far exceeded my expectations. The quality of the professors is extremely high, and my learning was made much easier because of their efforts. The facilities are great. The school is well run. My classmates have a positive attitude and want to be here. Competition is not cut-throat and students actually help each other because of the heavy emphasis on teamwork. My classmates have excellent jobs with top-notch companies around the country and the world. The value of this B-school and its education is way undervalued.--Entrepreneurship
The Graduate School of Management at Boston University is experiencing dramatic changes in strategy with its new MS.MBA program, new marketing campain to improve the program's image and perception, and the great efforts the administration and the students made to strengthen the school's alumni network. The school is definitely on the right track to be one of the leading institutions for business education: The faculty is very often outstanding, experienced, dedicated, professional and very approachable. Students can benefit greatly from the large size of the university by opting to study at numerous other schools and departments whithin BU: Dual Masters offering is definitely a plus at GSM, beyond the better known MS.MBA.--Finance
The MBA class of 2004 applied during the Internet downturn, an extremely competitive time to get in to schools. I am pretty happy with my BU education, but I would be happier if I had a job. Is the lack of a job due to my personal background and efforts? The quuality of the career services office? Or the state of the economy? I don't know. I hope the investment will be worth it financially, but at this time I cannot say. Currently, I may have to accept a job that pays at or near my old salary to start out and then hope that the MBA will make me more valuable as my career progresses.--Finance
Getting my MBA at Boston University was a great experience. In my two years here, [administrators] have continually focused on improving the school. More importantly, they have listened to the students in the process.--Finance
The Boston University MBA program possesses all of the characteristics of a quality MBA experience -- great professors, supportive administrative staff that listens to the students, and cooperative and supportive students. It's one weakness, however, may be its alumni base. The administration is definitely addressing this issue with more alumni events throughout the country, an alumni mentoring program, and a more organized alumni database. I know my investment into a BU MBA will appreciate over time.--Marketing
I felt that the program had excellent faculty and students who were able to provide an exceptional learning environment. The program is very challenging and rewarding at the same time. You have to work hard, but you are fully prepared when you graduate.--Consulting
Please note we have a challenging (and personally enriching) "Net Impact Case Competition" that requires participants to think beyond the numbers and integrate socially responsible practices in developing a case solution and presentation before a panel of judges.--Marketing
