CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATE COMMENTS
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] Babson provides a unique approach to the MBA curriculum. Both through the "streamed" classes that involve multiple disciplines and the exposure to world-class entrepreneurs, the Babson MBA is truly distinct in its ability to prepare students for the real world.--Marketing
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] I feel Babson's integrated curriculum and team-based consulting projects gave me a great foundation for solving business problems that I will be faced with in the future. In addition, although the workload was substantial, it all had a purpose.--Entrepreneurship
I feel like I might advise friends or colleagues to continue to work and get their MBA at the same time. That way, they continue to gain work experience, collect a salary, and get an MBA at the same time. I feel that the full-time MBA experience was extremely valuable, but I am finding that employers don't want to substitute that for actual work experience.--Finance
We had a yearlong consulting project during our first year. The first half concentrated on applying the tools we learned in the classroom. The second half was a more customized project, per the client's specifications, and that allowed the team to further apply our analytical and problem-solving skills.--Finance
The consulting projects are mandatory in the first year of the MAB program, and it was the highlight of my experience at Babson. We were able to incorporate our classroom learning and provide insight to our client company, Procter & Gamble, that was relevant to a specific business issue.--Consulting
Classroom work is great for teaching fundamentals, but only real-world consulting experience can help a student translate those principles into a set of skills he/she can use. Babson did an extremely good job at picking companies, ensuring robust projects, and involving the students.--Marketing
I worked with a team of five on a consulting project for a $150 million Chilean Winery. We flew down to Chile in January to meet with the company and uncover the vital business issues at hand. We then proceeded to develop a comprehensive marketing and distribution plan for the United States. The company gave us a $30,000 budget for travel to meet key stakeholders and for research. In addition, the company CEO and the CEOs of the holding companies came to Babson to hear our recommendations firsthand. What was also unique about this project was that it was a joint-consulting project. We worked with another team of five business school students from a B-school in Chile - Universidad Adolfo Ibanez. In the end, the company decided to seriously consider our recommendations. Our team gained significantly valuable consulting experience and did so in a truly global environment. It was a truly special experience and I am forever grateful to Babson for giving me this opportunity. One thing to mention: we needed to apply to get in to this project - it was NOT an elective, but rather a real consulting job executed by students handpicked for the project based on experience, skill and desire.--Not Available
Babson recognized that it needed to improve its career services department and has made some aggressive moves that will lead to superior performance in the future. In addition, the graduate school Dean Mark Rice is committed to developing a closer relationship between the current students and alumni.--Venture Capital/Private Equity
Babson would do better on surveys like these if you looked at careers five years out. We are hurt by comparisons based on salary coming out of school because we have so many entrepreneurs like myself who won't make money for a year but will eventually have more earning power than many graduates from top institutions.--Entrepreneurship
Babson offers a business school experience unique to its peers. The exposure to leading acamedics, entrepreneurial resources, streamed curriculum, and practicing business owners is unparalelled. I would not have been as happy anywhere else.--Marketing
[Recommend program to friends/colleagues?] It's going to depend on their interests, the type of learning environment they seek, and their career goals. If they're looking for a down-to-earth situation with high-caliber and accessible faculty, then Babson is the place. As far as career direction, most incoming students should be targeting the local area and marketing or finance positions. Otherwise, they should be confident enough to blaze their own path.--Entrepreneurship
Everyone coming through the program will work with a team to consult for a client during the first year. It helps codify what you are learning and to put into action the tools you are gaining. It also builds confidence for the future in presenting your insights to your clients.--Entrepreneurship
Because of the small size of the school, I have found that Babson alumni are more willing to put themselves out for recent graduates who are networking for job placement.--Marketing
Given the nature of the one-year program at Babson, I would recommend it to certain friends with specific reasons for enrolling in a one-year program.--Venture Capital/Private Equity
[Did consulting project enhance learning?] I worked on a product launch campaign for Oral-B. It was a great way to get insight into how a large CPG firm looks at international markets and products.--Not Available
The Babson Consulting alliance program allows you to work with a consulting team for an entire year to address a real-world, real-company problem. This is an invaluable part of the learning process that allows you to apply what you have learned in the classroom in a real-world context.--Entrepreneurship
I left a start up to get my MBA. I hoped that at Babson I would find others from small businesses or other situations that made them willing to wear multiple hats, embrace changing job descriptions, and do whatever it took to get the job done well. I can't imagine a harder working group of students.--Entrepreneurship
