Technology changes made over the past three years:
The school developed a database-driven corporate Web site giving access to WBS research, expertise and the teaching portfolio, and, for staff and students on all programs a state-of-the-art Web-based teaching support tool (my.wbs) which delivers personalized information and services. It includes messaging for administrative and pedagogic communication, learning resources, discussion boards both tutor-driven and student-managed, virtual study groups, chat rooms, assignment submission, contextualised results delivery, personal timetables, student feedback, analysis for staff, and much more. This has recently been completely re-architectured to create a flexible tool capable of supporting virtually any communication and information requirements, and is now being used to implement an expanded Intranet for staff and students, and to support research needs. Background database tools are currently being enhanced to facilitate a much higher level of technology usage for all activities. Support structures are also being reorganized, with the addition of new Technology Integrator posts to take a lead in creating a more proactive support environment. WBS has recently outsourced its LAN provision to the University as part of a multi-million pound re-engineering of campus network services. Internally, the school is implementing filestore strategies which will support an anticipated move to much wider laptop provision for research-active users, including centralized file-store offering automatic synchronisation with connected systems.
